Sugar Act in 1764 in U.S. colonial history, British legislation aimed to end the smuggling trade in sugar and molasses from the French and Dutch West Indies. They did this so they could raise money for the debt they were in from the French and Indian War. The British Parliament passed it in April 1764 in cooperation with Prime Minister George Grenville. American colonists responded to the Sugar Act and the Currency Act with protest. Participants in a town meeting cried out against taxation without proper representation in Parliament, and suggested some form of united protest. throughout the colonies.

On March 22, 1765, the British Parliament passed the Stamp Act in the American Colonies. It required colonists to pay taxes on every page of printed paper they used. The tax also included fees for playing cards, dice, and newspapers. The colonists were very upset about the taxation. The British parliament made it to help with the war debt they had from the French and Indian War.

The Townshend Acts/duties was a series of British acts of Parliament passed during 1767 and 1768. The point was to help pay the expenses involved in governing the American colonies. Parliament passed the Townshend Acts, which initiated taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. Nonimportation. American colonists did not like this because they had no representation in parliament and also they saw the acts as an abuse of power. They passed this in 1767.

The colonists were already upset that the red coats were even in the colonies. having the red coats in their homes made them even more enraged. this was the British parliament's answer to the red coats not having a place to live/quarter. this act was passed as a punishment for the Boston Tea Party.

The Boston massacre started as just a confrontation between British soldiers. On March 5, 1770, an unruly group of colonists taunted British soldiers by throwing snowballs and rocks. Firing upon the crowd, the British killed five colonists, including one African American, Crispus Attucks. The fight was over taxes and representation + The Townshend Act. Later, they were all put into jail.

The Boston Tea Party was an American political and mercantile protest on December 16, 1773, by the Sons of Liberty in Boston in colonial Massachusetts. Their goal was to target the Tea Act of 1773, which allowed the East India Company to sell tea from China in American colonies without paying taxes apart from those imposed by the Townshend Acts. The people boarded the ships and threw the boxes of tea into the Boston Harbor. The British government considered the protest an act of treason and responded harshly. The Boston Tea Party was a significant event that helped accelerate and intensify colonial support for the American Revolution.
