This is one of the frames from the Patterson-Gimlin film where they allegedly caught Bigfoot. This was shot in 1967. Prior to this Patterson, one of the film makers was interested in Bigfoot from an article he read in 1959. ("Patterson–Gimlin film", 2017) Analyzing the blurry image calls for the reason for belief, Patternicity. Although the picture is pixelated, the human mind instantly tries to look for patterns to make sense of the picture. In this case, it looks like a cave man or prehistoric looking figure.

This is an area of the Pacific Northwest. The Pacific Northwest is a "geographical region in western North America"("Pacific Northwest", 2017). Almost one-third of Bigfoot sightings have been reported in the Pacific Northwest. ("Where does Bigfoot live?"). This region includes mountains and dense forests. This image relates to the perception/ observation and Patternicity reasons for belief. Since it is reported that the Pacific Northwest contains almost one-third of the Bigfoot sightings, it can lead people to believe that whatever they see in that area that resembles Bigfoot traits, is actually Bigfoot. Just by revealing that kind of rumor, it plants the thought of Bigfoot into people’s minds and that would be their main focus when visiting the Pacific Northwest. People will try to find patterns of random objects and images they see which can be a flaw in documenting evidence. Another flaw could be the types of animals that inhabit this region, making it easily to misidentify. Some of the big animals include grizzly bears, moose, black bears, and even mountain lions.(Nancy Wagner)

This image display a picture of a relatively large foot that links to Bigfoot. This image is an example of Confirmation Bias. This red flag is present because although the image is of a large foot, there are too many variables to validate Bigfoot’s existence. This image could have been created artificially to entertain the thought that Bigfoot was at that location. Individuals try to associate whatever similar looking image they find and compare to what the media or internet has released on the traits of Bigfoot rather than logic and reasoning to come to a conclusion. The major flaw that this image presents is that it is too hard to believe that this foot was not artificially created to spark a rumor of Bigfoot's existence.

Red flags are confirmation bias, appeal to authority, and proof by verbosity. There is so much information on this website but no support proving if it is a hoax or not.

The red flags that are evident in this site are proof of verbosity and appeal to authority. The information in this site is the same information found in public forums and media, by stating that it’s the “only scientific research organization exploring the Bigfoot” is making it appear as a credible site. The site is also poorly formatted and the way it display it’s information on the Bigfoot makes it look like there was a ton of information that this site has documented but in reality, it is the same as other sites. This is also ties in with this sites major flaw which is the fact that this information is no different from other sources. To claim it is the “only scientific research organization exploring the Bigfoot” is to grab people’s attention.

Two red flags that this site presents are red herring and confusion with correlation with causation. It is a red herring because by providing locations to Bigfoot sightings has no relation to actually finding him because when one thinking logically, this means nothing or else there would have been a discovery already. Confusion with correlation with causation is also present because if one were to go to the locations the site gives, does not necessarily mean they will find any evidence of Bigfoot despite being a location of ‘reported sightings’ on it. The major flaw of this site is the assumption that Bigfoot is likely to be found in this location because it contains one third of the reported sightings on it.

This video is about a man in Virginia who recorded a sighting of what looked like Bigfoot. The red flag present in this video is Confirmation Bias. This video ignores critical thinking and the scientific method because it jumps straight to the conclusion that what is seen in the video is Bigfoot. This also references to Patternicity because the image caught on camera looks like a figure that matches the characteristics of Bigfoot. The flaw that this video presents is that it ignores logic and reasoning. The man and the media just want to confirm their own and others beliefs of Bigfoot being real that they do not reflect and research what it could have been.

This is an episode from the TV show called "Bigfoot Files". Near the end of the episode they talked about the double footprint theory. A bear can step on its footprint twice. (front foot and then back foot) creating a bigger footprint. This can cause people to mistake it as a Bigfoot footprint. They also described how a bear standing on its back legs in low lighting can look like "Bigfoot". This is great as it removes any limitations/flaws. They support their findings with scientific evidence, removing most of the red flags to look out for.

The red flag present in this video is Confirmation bias because the man believes that he had spotted Bigfoot without actually thinking that what he saw could have potentially been something else. Two reasons for belief that correspond to the video is Patternicity and Unexplained. The ‘animal’ that the man had trapped led him to believe that it was a Sasquatch or Bigfoot due to pattern he perceived from a distance. The footprints that he found and observed is an example of Unexplained because there was no evidence to prove the existence of Bigfoot and the man had also claimed that no one would believe him. This will lead individuals who hear and watch this story to try and explain as to what he saw and one day will eventually find hard evidence to prove Bigfoot’s existence. The flaw of this video, results in the man not applying critical thinking. He jumps straight to the conclusion that what he had seen was Bigfoot without actually try to apply logic and reason as to what else it may have been.
