         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Developmental Discussion on Trauma assignment was a well-organized discussion that allowed for multiple examples of trauma to be addressed and responded to through a collaborative effort. Being able to discuss varied perspectives allows for yet another learning opportunity in addition to the original assignment. Observing real-life trauma through documentaries is more impactful than just reading about it. These were real events and real people which brought in real-world experiences.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

This assignment, however, provided the depth and knowledge needed to understand the reasoning behind the creation of a Threat Assessment Plan. The assignment required a much more detailed and understandable sequence of events and the need for community partners as support. In addition, I was unaware of the level of multi agencies involved in the protocols.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The public school system is full of cultural diversity. In my specific scenario, I am a Caucasian woman who is a counselor in an almost equal demographic of Hispanic and African-American students. Being aware of, acknowledging, and utilizing cultural differences is a recipe for success in building authentic relationships with students and clients. It seems, however, that the shift in being culturally competent is to add social justice to the concept. Not only is it important to recognize the cultural differences, but also to take into consideration “power, privilege, and oppression that impact clients” (Manivong et al., 2015). So much so that Manivong et al. (2015) developed a more in-depth set of cultural competencies, the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC).
