The Rodriquez Fruit Bat, sometimes known as the Golden bat, is an endangered bat species that is located on the island of Rodriquez in the Western Indian Ocean. This bat has formed many adaptations to survive. One adaptation is the bats short, dog-like, face that contains strong jaw bones and longer teeth for eating hard fruits. The bats fur is typically a dark, golden color, which makes it easier for it to be disguised at night. Unlike many bats that use a form of sonar to navigate and find food, this bat has large eyes with vision similar to that of a cats. It also has an acute sense of hearing and a strong sense of smell. Also, unlike many other bats, the Rodriquez Fruit Bat has a claw in on its first two digits (fingers). This bat also is a member of the "mega bat" family, but is one of the smaller mega bats. This bat can weigh between .5lb and 1lb. Another adaptation this bat has is a large wingspan. With the wingspan of around 3 feet, this bat can travel over a long distance to find food. So that the bat does not get weighed down by water when it is raining, its wings do not have any fur on them. This allows the water to simply run off the wings not effect the flight of the less than 1lb bat.

1. The adaptation of the bats cat-like vision could help humans to see sudden movements better. For example, a hunter trying to kill a rabbit could use this as rabbits are very quick.

2. The adaptation of the bats large wingspan could serve as a guide to better flight control. The bat is able to travel longer distances because of the the difference in the wingspan and the body size.

3. The adaptation of the bats wings repelling water could be used to keep humans from getting wet when getting into a vehicle. Though umbrellas help when walking to a vehicle, they aren't much help when someone has to close the umbrella, with the door still open. Something similar to a bats wing could be used between the open door and the frame of the vehicle to keep people dry as they close their umbrellas.

The original idea is a piece of material (such as rubber) that is attached to the door frame on the vehicle. As the door opens, the material comes out, like a bat wing, to cover the person getting in the vehicle.

Inspired by the bats wingspan, I believe putting a similar, water repellent, material between the frame and open door of a vehicle would keep people from getting wet when closing their umbrellas (such as thin rubber). Similar to the way a bat opens its wings, this material would open when someone opened a vehicle door. One side would be attached to the frame of the vehicle and the other would be attached to the top of the door. This would allow a person to stand under the material and close an umbrella without getting wet in the process. In order to be sustainable, the material would need to be thin in order for the door to close completely. It would also need to be flexible, but strong enough it would not tear if a strong wind blew the door open.
