The central message in start your engines is to learn about the history of cars, and to be thankful that we have cars today. I know because, in the first paragraph, it says ,"imagine a world without cars. It's hard!" When nicolas Joseph Cugnot invented the first automobile, the text says that his invention wasn't perfect. That tells me modern day things are things we should be thankful for.

The central message is how automobiles changed and and turned into cars we use today, step by step. In the text it says"Cugnot built a carriage." Then it says"But it wasn`t perfect."This shows Cugnot made a good invention, but not perfect. Then it says"By 1900, electric cars were the most popular kind of car in the U.S. Yet they had drawbacks, too." This shows cars still weren`t perfect, but inventors still worked hard.

The central message in the article "Start Your Engines" is how we traveled through time. In the text it says before cars, people walked on their feet or used animals for transportation. Then in 1769,an inventor named Nicholas Joseph Cugnot built a carriage that moved on 3 wheels with a big boiler. Other inventors had different ideas for power. The first battery powered vehicle was invented in 1830, By 1900 electric cars were popular, quiet, and don't smell. In the 1880s, 2 German inventors had an idea. It changed cars forever, separately, they both built new vehicles with a gasoline engine. They could go fast, they cost up to $2,000, Henry Ford changed that, he built a car that cost up to $260. He sold them very cheaply because he had a quicker way to make them. This shows how people traveled through time.

Victoria The central message in the story ''Start Your Engines'' is how inventors were trying to make cars, and make them faster.''Cugnot car was stronger than any horse. It was powerful enough to pull a few cannons at once. But it wasn't perfect.'' ''Most cars could only go about 30 to 60 kilometers. Then the battery died.''This shows that the cars were good, but not the best

I know this because in paragraph 9 it says 'The car had to stop every 20 minutes to build up new steam.Steam engines also were heavy and noisy. They had a strong odor ,too. People worried that the boiler might explode. In paragraph 11 it says 'Yet they had drawbacks ,too. Most could only go about 30-60 kilometers[20-40 miles].Then the battery died .Places to plug in and recharge the battery were scarce'. This shows how the main idea is not everything is perfect.
