Pictures at an exhibition (THE GREAT GATE OF KIEV #16)

I chose the movement of The Great Gate of Kiev. In this movement royalty and elegance is being expressed. It sounds like music you would hear watching a movie about a royal family. I hear multiple classical songs. This music relates to the artwork because it sounds as if a new royal family is entering the castle every time a new song begins to play. This movement is played in a semi fast tempo almost as if a new note is being played every time the family steps on a new step getting closer to the castle.

In this piece of artwork the idea of weight being lifted off your shoulders is being expressed. The feeling behind this piece is frustration. No matter how hard the elephant tries or how long he tries he can’t figure out a way to fly. I feel this picture expresses frustration because the elephant is shown thinking of an elephant flying and even though he as thousands of balloons tied to him he can’t fly like it.

My piece of artwork represented by music will start off very slow then gradually speed up to a kind of joyful sound. To play my composition I will use a guitar in the tonality of major. I believe the genre that could best represent my piece is pop because often pops songs express multiple sounds/ideas and change throughout the piece.

The category of SHMRG most represented in the stages of my piece is melody and harmony. I’ve started to represent the artwork through my piece by playing a slow song that represents the feeling of frustration and happiness all in one. https://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/c6c9b0f6f48af7177273a2de98729ac4edd13d09

They contribute to representing the goal and work of the artwork in the piece because they slow down the piece a little allowing me to change the volume. My next step in this piece is to add other musical elements such as a slower tempo. https://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/c6c9b0f6f48af7177273a2de98729ac4edd13d09

I would describe my piece as a very conjunct piece with only few measures that are disjunct. I need to add more measures that will allow me to portray a happier yet slower feeling. https://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/4f689e2b0b471ca800aa5e9d69bfd8c89add8c6a
