In the past, she has served in roles such as senior deputy director of the DC Department of Health, Addiction Prevention and Recovery Administration, where she reduced the department's fixed costs by 63 percent. Tori Fernandez Whitney has worked for government agencies such as the Department of Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as her own consultancy, Whitney and Associates, LLC. Tori Fernandez Whitney studied political science at American University in Washington, DC, graduating with a bachelor of arts in 1999. She returned to the university in 2010 and completed a master of public administration program. In addition to her work at Tenner Consulting and the William Wendt Center for Loss and Healing, she is an active member of the National Congress of Black Women, the National Forum of Black Public Administrators, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. Between 2008 and 2011, she served as an executive officer of the Board of Directors for the National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors as the organization’s first vice president. In her free time, she enjoys taking wine education classes.
