The painting I was inspired by was “Girl Crocheting” by Edmund Tarbell. I am hoping to show the same peaceful feeling from the inspiration but in a different generation. It has the same feeling and mine looks like an oil painting. It is supposed to be in the same lighting and of a girl in the same position with a monster can in place of the vase. I made it so it is almost the same girl but just in a different generation. Value and space are the most important in my painting because of the lighting and the area the girl was in. I used a digital art program with downloaded oil paint brushes.

Untitled by Kendal McLaine
Original artist- Winslow Homer

My redesigned artwork was inspired by the art On the Beach, ca 1867. Created by Winslow Homer (1836- 1910) Gift of Barlett, Arkell 1932. The meaning behind my artwork is to spend time with your family and carry on traditions. And to remind people to create memories that last forever and hopefully one day recreate with someone they love. Similarities within my redesigned artwork and the original is the painting being set at the beach with girls on the beach. It's connected to the original artwork because the girl in the painting is one of the girls from the original artwork. She brought her daughters to the same breach to create memories like she did with her sisters. To make the artwork appealing to a new audience I made a story within the painting to create a memory many have experienced with a family member. Carrying on traditions within their families and reminding people to make memories with their loved ones. The elements of art that were used in the artwork were color in the sky, Value was shown through the different shades of blue in the sky. The principle of design that is emphasized in the artwork is unity. All elements in the painting come together to create a visually pleasing work of art. To create my artwork I used canvas, paint, and sharpie.

The artwork I’m reimagining is girl crocheting by Edmund Tarbell made in 1904. I used Adobe Photoshop to create this artwork. I’m hoping to express a loss of self. The person in the photo is having a hard time recognizing theirself to the point they don't know what they physically look like. The thing I’m keeping the same in my painting are the overall shape and layout of the room. Some of the changes I’m making to make this more interesting to a modern audience is adding a bookcase to reduce the negative space and keep it interesting. I'm also replacing the photos on the wall with more modern painting because It makes it something they might see more often than the other paintings. The emphasized element of art is line because there are a lot of sharp lines in my artwork . The emphasized principle of design is balance because of the asymmetrical balance.

"In front of the Froghouse" is inspired by Winslow Homer's 1863 painting In front of the Guardhouse. I replaced the two guards in the painting with Jim Henson's iconic characters Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear from The Muppets series. I chose them to replace the guards because they are distinct characters that people will recognize on sight. It is similar to the original since I kept the positions, and properties of the painting but used a cartoony style.

The artwork that inspired me was ‘Still life, roses’, by Julian Alden Weir. The meaning behind my work is about having creativity. My artwork connects to ‘Still life, roses’ by the overall orientation and objects present. The similarities between the two artworks include the flower and vase placement, the silhouette/shape of the vases, and that there is an object behind the vases. Some differences would be the object in the background, colours of the objects and background, different textures/finishes, and the saturation of the colours. Some of the elements of art & principles of design include colour, shape, texture, and variety. The materials used were watercolor, a black sharpie, a black pen, coloured pencils, and mod podge (used to make glass glossy).

I did a redesign of Winslow Homer, Girl at the fence, ca. 1875. The meaning of it is supposed to be about lying, it’s supposed to represent that you can lie only so much before the truth begins to come up. The black vines represent the truth seeming into the lies. The redesign connects to the original by solving the mystery of what was behind the fence. Similarities in the redesign is the fence, the big tree, and the girl. The changes made was you see the other side of the fence, there is a swing on the tree, the hut is bigger and more like a shed, and the black vines coming from the shed. There is contrast in all of the colors, there are a lot of bright vibrant type colors, and there is emphasis on the black vines that represent the truth coming out. I used pastel oil colors for my piece, I also used pen to add to the black vines.

I am hoping to express that you can make anything into artwork if you want to. my redesign connects to the original artwork because I painted the picture as close as I could get it on to the bowl. some of the similarities in my redesign and the original are the boat the clouds and the blue sky. what makes my artwork more appealing is I painted it on a bowl instead of the normal paper or canvas that is used in most paintings. the element of art represented in my redesign is form. the materials that I used in my redesign are air dry clay and paint.

The USS Constitution, 1929. Clifford W. Ashley. 1881-1947. It represents the stability, anything in the boat had, compared to anything in the flowing and moving ocean. It connects by having the same elements, such as form and color. It has the same sky, ocean, and boat as the original painting. I added more vibrant colors that would attract younger audiences and a “cartoony”/popart style boat. This art piece contains the elements and principles of color, rhythm/movement, space, form, texture. Watercolor and a thin sharpie marker was what I used.
