As secondary educators, do we need to take internet policy education more seriously by setting class time aside for it? Or do we just inform students in a non scheduled environment?

This is basically the same question I had. I think setting aside time in class would make a bigger impact on the students, but as we already know, class time is valuable. I think a good teacher should be able to include little tips and advice about online safety during normal class time, and not have to set aside time specifically for online safety.

Personal opinion: setting aside classroom time in the beginning of the school year, especially since the internet is used so often, could go a long way in seeing proper use of the internet. From there, I believe little teachable moments would suffice.

I feel like we all have the same question! In my opinion, I think that this topic should be built into a class that every student takes. I would say health, just because that is where this conversation seems to fit to me. That being said, I still think that we can have this conversation with students if we see a red flag or we think they could just use some guidance.

That's a tough one, I think it depends on the class. For myself as a Health Teacher I do think it would be wise to use class time to educate kids on the internet policy. This is because of the things they could possibly be looking up for school project but may also lead them quickly down the wrong street or website.

I think that not training students or running from this issue will only cause problems as it is not going away.
