  • The ability to manipulate individual phonemes in spoken words. By manipulate, the student may identify, add, substitute, or delete a sound from a word to display phonemic awareness.

Phonics- (WRITTEN WORDS)
  • Students will associate a letter (grapheme/ symbol) to a sound (phoneme)
  • Develop a sound and symbol correspondence for each phoneme in the English language. 
  • For example- the letters S and H together make the sound /sh/ like in the word ship.
