Welcome to Summer 2022 and thank you for choosing Cascadia College! I want to share information I hope you find useful as you navigate Cascadia and it's resources. This message contains a lot of information so please reach out to us with questions – and check your email and canvas account regularly to learn about resources to support your learning.
 
The first day of the quarter is Tuesday, July 5th and the last day of the quarter is Thursday, August 25th. Make sure to log in to your classes on the first day!

All students must be vaccinated to take online and in-person classes for Summer Quarter 2022 and beyond. Details on how to record your information or how to apply for an exemption are on our COVID-19 webpage.
 
How to access your online classes for fall quarter:
 
Do you have a class session being offered ON CAMPUS this quarter?
  • Complete a daily attestation form. You will receive an email daily for you to fill out just on the days you are planning to come to campus.
  • Face coverings are required in all campus buildings.  For more detailed information, visit our COVID-19 webpage. 
  • Parking: You can use the PayByPhone app to buy parking permits or purchase a day permit.  More parking information is available on our Commuter Services page.
  • ORCA Card (Bus Pass): If you would like to purchase a new ORCA card, please send the signed agreement form to ARFinance@Cascadia.edu or If you need to renew a Cascadia ORCA card, please send a front and back photo of your ORCA Card to ARFinance@Cascadia.edu.  You will then pay for the card and it will be mailed to you (or your current card will be re-activated).  
 
How to register for a class or change your class schedule:
  • Students will be able to add open classes that do not have a waitlist ONLINE through the second day of the term, Wednesday, July 6th. 
  • Students can register via email if the class has a waitlist, or anytime during the late registration period up until Wednesday, July 6th.  To register, students must obtain permission via email from the instructor to add the class, clearly stating their approval with item number, course name, and if necessary, approval for over-enrollment. The student should forward that email along with their name and ctcLink ID number to enrollment@cascadia.edu.
  • The 100% refund deadline is Monday, July 11th.
 
Need to meet with an academic advisor or have registration questions?
  • Virtual Assistance Zoom Rooms - virtual waiting rooms where you will be able to meet with staff in Advising, Enrollment, Disability Services, Veterans, International Programs, and Financial Aid. 
  • You can also complete this form to schedule an appointment either in person or virtually with an academic advisor.
 
 How to get textbooks:
 
Setting up your Student Accounts:
  • UW NetID  (University of Washington Network Identification) is an account you create to gain online access to certain University of Washington services, including: library resources, parking permits, emergency notification system, and UWB wireless network (in the library, ARC building, and UW1 & UW2 buildings).
  • Cascadia email/network account: You should have received a message to the email address you used for enrollment/registration with your user name included and the pattern for your starting/default password.  If you find that your account was not created or you have other issues, please contact the Help Desk for further assistance..
  • Canvas account: Canvas is an online learning management system that provides tools and access to features, such as class assignments, course content and materials, quizzes, classroom activities, and more.
  • Emergency Notification System: This system keeps you informed of campus emergencies or college closures. (You will also need a UW NetID account to sign up for alerts.)
 
Need to Borrow a Laptop or other equipment?
  • Please visit the Student Help Desk portal, log in with your Cascadia user name (user name only, do not include @student.cascadia.edu) and password, and select the appropriate option from what is presented. You must be enrolled in courses during the current or upcoming quarter to access these resources and some items are only available to select programs of study. You will be asked to choose a time to pick up your device from the curbside pick-up times available. If you have any questions, please email helpdesk@cascadia.edu.
 
 How to update your contact information:
  • Verify your contact information in our records. You can update mailing/email address, phone number and add a preferred name to your contact information.
 
How to get your Cascadia student ID card:
 
Read about Important Policies, such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Campus Clery Act.  We direct students to this information each quarter to make sure you are aware of these important policies.
 
Keep track of Important Dates for Summer 2022, such as the first & last day of the quarter, the 100% and 50% refund deadlines and last day to add/drop/withdraw from classes.
 
Where to Eat on Campus (Optional):
  • We have designated eating and drinking areas (CC1-041, CC3-121, Stopwatch Espresso, North Creek Events Center, and the GLA-CC3 Patio) are set up for individuals to actively eat and drink. The classrooms (CC1-041, CC3-121) are set up with one chair per table and have capacity limits of 23 seats and 18 seats respectively. All areas will be well-marked, have clear signage with instructions for cleaning, and equipped with cleaning supplies. 

Places to purchase food:
  • Stopwatch Espresso: Lower level of the CC1/2 building
  • Food Trucks each day located in front of the ARC building https://www.uwb.edu/food/trucks
  • Vending machines located throughout the campus buildings and an expanded vending located in the ARC lower level near the fitness center.

TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS INTO THE U.S.:

Beginning November 8th, 2021, the U.S. requires all travelers to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entering the U.S. by air travel.

Requirements for all travelers. All travelers to the U.S. must:
  1. Show proof of vaccination or get exception approval from their airline
  2. Show a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 within 1 day of your flight (timing depends on your vaccination status)
  3. Wear a mask while on the plane or in U.S. airports
  4. Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms after you arrive in the U.S.

THE U.S. TRAVEL REQUIREMENT FOR PROOF OF COVID-19 VACCINATION FOR AIR PASSENGERS:  Beginning November 8, 2021, any non-U.S. citizen on a non-immigrant visa (including F-1 student visa) will need to show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before they travel by air to the United States from a foreign country.

Please visit CDC's website for non-U.S. citizen and non-U.S. immigrant traveler information. Only limited exceptions apply to the requirement to show proof of vaccination. You can also find information on our website.

The following policy was announced on October 12, 2021:
 
  1. The CBP will begin allowing fully vaccinated travelers from Mexico or Canada to enter the United States at land and ferry POEs for non-essential reasons.
  2. Beginning in early January 2022, DHS will require that all inbound foreign national travelers crossing U.S. land or ferry POEs – whether for essential or non-essential reasons – be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide related proof of vaccination. This approach will provide ample time for essential travelers such as truckers, students, and healthcare workers to get vaccinated.
 
This means that any newly admitted students for Winter Quarter 2022 and beyond must be fully vaccinated to enter the US, starting in 2022.  The DHS still needs to announce further details for implementation, so check back for more information as we receive it.

How do I know if the class I want is online, in person/on campus, or Hybrid?  
  • Web Enhanced= On Campus/in person courses that are supported by online applications such as WaMap and CANVAS.  
  • Online = 100% Online. These courses can be offered synchronously (with a specific meeting time via Zoom) or asynchronously (Students work on their own and follow dates and deadlines outlined by the course.)   
  • Hybrid= There is a component that will be required on campus/in person and a component that will be online. This will be unique to each course listed as hybrid.   

I forgot my ctcID number and need it to register, what do I do?   
Complete this online form to request your ctcID number recovery or visit us at Virtual Assistance online.   

I was put on a waiting list, what now?   
  • See Your Position: By logging into your ctcLink student portal you can view your position on the waitlist.   
  • Runs Once Per Day: The waitlist runs automatically, once per day. As positions in class open up, the person in position #1 on the waitlist will automatically be enrolled.   
  • No Duplicate Classes: You cannot be added from the waitlist into a different section of a class that you are already enrolled in.   
  • If you are enrolled in English 101 section 1 and on the waitlist for English 101 section 2, you will not be enrolled into English 101 section 2 from the waitlist, even if you are in position #1, as long as you are also enrolled in English 101 section 1 still.    
  • Class Charges: You will not be charged tuition for a class you are on the waitlist for. Charges appear for classes you are registered for.   
  • CtcLink Student Portal: Once you are enrolled from the waitlist you can view it on your schedule, see tuition for the class, and you will receive an email notification that you have been enrolled.   
  • Emails are Important: To ensure you receive the notification email, please confirm that the email address you have listed on your ctcLink student portal is an email you check regularly.    
  • Make sure to mark ‘Cascadia.edu’ email addresses as safe, to eliminate the possibility that your notification email is sent to your ‘junk’ or ‘spam’ folder in your email.

How do I order transcripts?   
Official Transcripts:    
*Be Advised: The US Postal Service is experiencing an unprecedented volume increase and limited employee availability due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are also seeing delays with international mail, including instances where some countries are not accepting mail for certain periods of time. We ask that if you are requesting a transcript be mailed, you allow for additional time and processing when considering deadlines. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.   

Unofficial Transcripts:    
  • Show all the same information as the official, these are free, these cannot be used to transfer credits from one college to another.   
  • Log into your ctcLink student profile > Student Homepage > Academic Records > View Unofficial Transcripts   
   
I am Registered Already, How do I know what books/materials I need:   
  • Go to the University Bookstore website and search by course for required textbooks and materials.    
  • You do not have to purchase through the UW Bookstore, but this is how you can see what books/materials are needed for your course.    
  • If there is no information listed, your instructor may be utilizing online resources for your course   
  • You may also email your instructor to confirm what books/materials you will need for your course.   
  • Select Course Search – you will need the following information:   
    • School, Term, Department, Catalog number, section/class number.   
    • EXAMPLE: English 277 – Writing Fiction with Jared Leising for Fall Quarter   
      • School: Cascadia College   
      • Term: Fall 2021   
      • Department: English   
      • Catalog Number: 277   
      • Section/class number: Select the course section listed on your course.   
  • You will then select your course and ‘begin shopping’ to view what books/materials are needed for your course.   
   
Family Educational Rights to Privacy Act – FERPA:   
FERPA is a federal act that protects students enrolled in college. Cascadia cannot release information about a student without the student’s expressed permission to anyone other than the student. Students may complete a Release of Information Form and a brief zoom meeting to verify identity, to release information to specific individuals.    
  • High School Students/Parents and FERPA: Cascadia offers a number of ways that high school students may access college curriculum, and they have the same protections as all other college students.   
   
How do I get a hold of OTHER student Services?

  • CARE Team is here to assist with and support students, staff, and faculty in assisting those who display concerning or disruptive behavior.   
  • When you contact the CARE Team for assistance a care team member will respond within one business day. You can also stop by Virtual Assistance or let a staff member know you need to be in contact with the CARE Team.   
  • Once the CARE Team has been alerted to a situation, a team member will meet to implement the assessment process.

A Bias Incident is a behavior or act (physical, verbal, or written) committed against or targeted toward an individual or group based on their actual or perceived characteristic such as race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national or ethnic origin, age, status as an individual with a disability, protected veteran status, genetic information, or other protected classes required by law.
