Guy Montag hesitated to decide whether he should burn the books or save them. By saving the books, he would take a huge risk in his society. By burning them, he would be doing his job as a firefighter and be a "good" citizen- in his society. In Montag's society people burn books because they are full of different opinions that may be harmful to the government or cause people to disrespect it.

The resolution occured after Guy Montag killed Beatty. Montag stayed with a group of people who loved books, "the book people." They preserved books by memorizing them, because the firemen couldn't erase the knowledge from books if they aren't physical books. After the city was bombed due to the war, the "book people", including Montag, were able to help rebuild their society with their knowledge gained from books- to pick up the pieces.

"There must be something in books, things we can't imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don't stay for nothing."
The quote shows Montag's curiosity for books. He know's that there's more to books than just paper and words- there's great meaning.

"For the first time I realized that a man was behind each one of the books...It took some man a lifetime...and then I come along in two minutes and boom! It's all over." The quote reveals that when Guy Montag started to have a different perspective on books. When he started to see the importance of them.

"'Montag,' he said,' you're really stupid. Where do we go from here? Do we turn the books in, forget it?'" The quote reveals Montag's dependence on people to guide him when it comes to books. He always needs to be guided when wondering if he should take the risk of keeping books or not.

Clarisse McClellan

"Do you ever read any of the books that you burn?" The quote shows how Clarisse talks to Montag. She wonders why he takes the job of a fireman- a mean man who burns houses with books, a destroyer, but yet he has curiosity.

"Bet I knew something else you don't. There's dew on the grass in the morning"..."And if you look'-she nodded at the sky-'there's a man on the moon." This reveals that Clarisse is very observant, knowlegable, and caring. She notices little things that other people don't care about.

"I'm antisocial, they say. I don't mix. It's so strange. I'm very social indeed. It all depends on what you mean by social, doesn't it? Social to me means talking to you about things like this." This reveals how people think that Clarisse is antisocial, even though she is. She just doesn't relate to other teenagers in her time. She's different in a good way.

Guy Montag began to think for himself when he started hearing and learning from Clarisse McClellan. He faced problems with the world he lived in, and its ways. Nobody thought outside of the box, or really had great personalities. Everybody was stuck to the average normal life where nobody thought creatively. This troubled Montag. He wondered whether he should just stay as another boring member of the society he lived in, or be somebody great.

"Think For Yourself" by The Beatles. I chose this song because it talks about somebody that needs to think independently. The society that Montag lives in needs to think independently and the government shouldn't tell lies or burn books.

Please skip to 0:10. I had to put the Rock Band Game version because The Beatles have a lot of copyright claims on their songs.
