Having read the translation, I can say this is a fantastic example of magical realism. Mo Yan paints the Chinese countryside with an impressionist's brush, revealing through pigment and contrast what is invisible to sight. It's not an easy read, though. Set during the Japanese occupation, this story captures both horror and earnestness.

How to Read a Book, originally published in 1940, has become a rare phenomenon, a living classic. It is the best and most successful guide to reading comprehension for the general reader. And now it has been completely rewritten and updated.

You are told about the various levels of reading and how to achieve them -- from elementary reading, through systematic skimming and inspectional reading, to speed reading, you learn how to pigeonhole a book, X-ray it, extract the author's message, criticize. You are taught the different reading techniques for reading practical books, imaginative literature, plays, poetry, history, science and mathematics, philosophy and social science.

Finally, the authors offer a recommended reading list and supply reading tests whereby you can measure your own progress in reading skills, comprehension and speed.

They say that after watching a good science fiction book, we look up at the sky and try to find the stars. After reading this sentence, the first thing that comes to my mind is Interstellar. And that's true. A lot of science fiction, it takes us away from reality, and focuses our eyes on the big, long universe. Take me as an example. After watching the Three-Body Problem I, the first thing that comes to my mind is the question of human belonging, whether to believe in oneself or to believe in the unknown. Everyone has different feelings about science fiction, but the same thing is the exploration of infinity. "Interstellar," so to speak, once I read a passage, I would get lost in the vastness of the universe. The brilliant, magnificent, romantic, I can't find a word to describe this work bring me, even, until now I have been to escape to parse it, because I can't do that, I can't say I understand, of course, here to understand, is not a standard answer like to appreciate the report, after repeated reading for many times, I still don't have a clear self-understanding of him. It was as if my mind refused to make sense of it, to destroy the indefinable impact. And the image that I have in the book, which has stirred me for a long time, if I had to describe it, would be that of a Muslim, Jewish and Christian coming to Jerusalem, which might be an irreverent metaphor, but I don't have a better way to describe it. The unknown you've sought all your life is now visible to the naked eye.

Official plot introduction: In the near future, the earth is covered with yellow sand, and basic crops such as wheat and okra have been wiped out due to blight. Instead of looking up at the stars and indulged in imagination and inspiration, human beings are counting down the days left under the scourge of sandstorms. The former NASA astronaut Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) discovered a strange gravitational field phenomenon in his daughter Murphy's study, and then learned that in an unknown area before NASA members are still secretly carrying out a plan to save humanity. Years ago, a mysterious wormhole appeared near Saturn, prompting NASA to send astronauts to distant galaxies in search of habitable worlds. In professor Brand (Michael Kane) persuasion, Cooper reluctantly bid farewell to her daughter, and the other three experts professor daughter Amelia Brand to the target planet investigation...

It's worth rereading again and again, or if you don't have the time you can check out the movie Interstellar.
