They never told Colton about her because it was simply too hard to explain a miscarriage to a small child. In fact, the seemed ashamed to bring it up even to each other. They were flabbergasted to say the least when Colton said he had met her. He described her as looking like his other sister, Cassie, but with dark hair. This detail meant a lot to Sonja because Colton and Cassie both look like their dad, and she was overcome with joy to find out that a child finally had her dark hair. That seemed to be the turning point when Todd and Sonja were no longer afraid to bring up the miscarriage. Pap died years before Colton was even born, so they never met each other. When Colton first described his experience when he visited in Heaven to his dad, he talked a lot about Pap. Todd was shocked to even hear his name because Colton never knew him. Colton explained that Pap was the first person he met in Heaven and he spent most of his time there with him. It seemed that they bonded together and that Pap had taken Colton under his wing (that was a good angel pun). It was interesting how Colton knew that his did was very close to Pap as he grew up. Strangely, Colton didn't even recognize him when he was shown a picture of him. However, he instantly picked Pap out of the crowd when he was shown a picture of him in his twenty's. I gave it such a good rating because I was always completely engrossed in the book whenever I was reading. I didn't want it to end, and I don't think I've ever said that about a book before. If you are going to read this book, be prepared for an emotional roller coaster. The sad parts really hit hard because it was told from the father's point of view, so you could really get an understanding of what he and his wife were going through when their son was sick. On the other side of things, there were a handful of times where I actually got goosebumps because of the things Colton would say about Heaven. The fact that it was written by the father made the story seem very personal and you felt close to the family.
