In 1917, Pershing was sent to France as Commander-in-chief of the American Expeditionary forces in World War I. His mission was to organize, train and supply a small inexperienced Army that quickly grew to more than two million Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. A horrible war that had been mired in the soggy trenches in France ended quickly with Blackjack Pershing leading the way.

General Pershing was an American General who set standards on today's modern military. From being the first white officer of the notorious 10th Cav, a commander in the Spanish American War, building an American Army from less than 85,000 soldiers to over two million (which helped result in the U.S. winning the First World War), to building a General Staff System still in place today. He was known to be stubborn and stuck in his ways, but he was also known for his results. His great successes show nothing but great superiority as a leader.
