Unlike agnostics who cannot make a leap of faith, Mr. Kumar is one of which whom Pi admires because of his belief in something. His absence of believing in God wasn't there because science saved his life.

On Pi's many religious beliefs, Mr. Kumar was one of his influences to begin practicing Islam. His passion of praying to God was to spread the teachings and illustrate the beliefs of faith. This made Pi become more enthusiastic knowing that religion is a universal story about loving one another. As Mr. Kumar's first time seeing zebras, he was fascinated by its unique skin, that God could create such a wonderful creature.

Science and religion are both different aspects of people's experience. Science has more proof drawn from our natural world. Meanwhile, religion believes in faith of a higher power that involves supernatural forces but without evidence.
