Reflecting on the GBA500 – Leadership course syllabus at Centenary University, my expectations are clear and ambitious. This course promises a deep dive into the catalytic function of leadership, especially relevant in our rapidly changing 21st-century landscape. The focus on theoretical frameworks and practical applications—underlined by assignments like the Leadership Practices Inventory and the Management versus Leadership Analysis—suggests a robust approach to understanding leadership dynamics.

What excites me most is the opportunity to evolve as a reflective leader through assignments requiring self-reflection and peer interaction. The detailed feedback mechanisms and peer evaluations are designed to enhance understanding and personal growth. I expect to emerge from this course with a firmer grasp of leadership theories and practices and a refined personal leadership style responsive to the complexities of modern organizational environments. I anticipate challenges that will push me to critically analyze my assumptions about leadership and look forward to how these challenges will shape my capabilities and perspectives.

Reflecting on Week 2 of our leadership course, I've deepened my understanding of the essential traits, attributes, and competencies that define effective leadership. We explored current leadership theories, emphasizing the importance of qualities like empathy, integrity, vision, and adaptability in great leaders.

A key focus this week was the comparison between Transactional and Transformational Leadership models. I learned that Transactional Leadership is based on a clear exchange between the leader and followers, often driven by rewards and punishments. This model is effective for straightforward tasks but less so for inspiring long-term innovation and commitment.

In contrast, Transformational Leadership fosters a higher level of personal commitment by inspiring followers to transcend their own interests for the greater good. This model, characterized by its emphasis on idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration, encourages a shared vision and nurtures an environment ripe for creativity and growth.

Overall, this week's lessons have equipped me to better understand and apply different leadership styles, enhancing my ability to determine the most effective approach in diverse organizational scenarios.
