I wanted to extend to all of you a warm welcome to NURS Research Basis of Nursing course. Since this course is designed to have us work together, I wanted to provide you with information about myself. I live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I frequently have the opportunity to watch deer walking in my yard while I enjoy meals with my family. I am excited to finally enjoy the warmer and longer days of light that are part of the wonders of summer.

I started working at Drexel in 2003 and have been working full time since 2005. I teach primarily in the undergraduate program, but have taught in both graduate and doctorate programs both online and in person. During my doctorate work, I completed a qualitative study related to the experiences of registered nurses who worked in the emergency department in screening for intimate partner violence. I find research fascinating as it is the foundation to improving health outcomes in populations.

I am excited to have the opportunity to be working with you this quarter. I attached a picture of what I think would be a great place to spend a summer evening.

I look forward to "seeing" and working with all of you online this quarter.

Hi everyone! My name is Elisa ("uh-lee-suh") for those of you that may not know me. I'm a Q4 ACE student. I love to spend time with family and friends. I am a wanderlust traveler! I absolutely love traveling whether its within the state, within the country, or my favorite - around the world! I previously graduated with a Marketing degree, working as a Catering Manager for the last 6 years in a casino in Atlantic City, NJ. The only research experience I have is if I had to write a research paper for a class. I do not have experience in research professionally. My course expectations are to get a better understanding of research topics within nursing. I'm looking forward to finishing the end of the quarter with everyone!

Hello everyone! My name is Uloma and I am a Q4 ACE student. Outside of the classroom my interests include reading, traveling, spending time with my friends/family, and trying new things whether it's food or a new interesting activity. Previously I attended West Chester University and graduated with a degree in Biology. After graduating I worked as a medical assistant in a urology office, where I got most of my healthcare experience. Unfortunately I do not have any research experience other than writing a paper or two for class. Hopefully by the end of this course I hope to be able to use research to enhance my nursing skills. I'm very excited to expand my knowledge of research in nursing and put it into practice.

Hello! My name is Sophia. I am a Q4 ACE student. Outside of the classroom I enjoy running and spending time with my family. I also love to cook and bake in my spare time. Previously, I received a degree in psychology from Drexel. So, I have been here for a while now! In undergrad, I did a co-op as a behavioral health technician working with children. I really enjoyed it! As a psychology major, I got a good amount of research experience in. However, I am excited to do research from a nursing perspective this time. During this class, I expect to learn more about research systems and techniques in writing. I am looking forward to this term!

Hello! My name is Demetra. I am a Q4 ACE student. Outside of the classroom I enjoy being outdoors going on walks, hikes, bike rides, and going to the beach. I also enjoy reading and hanging out with my family, friends, and animals. I have a major in Biology from Rutgers University. I work as a nursing aide at a hospital down the shore. My previous research experience is pretty limited to just the labs and papers I had to complete to get my Biology degree. For this course I expect to gain more knowledge on research when it comes to the nursing profession. I am excited for this quarter and all I will learn!

Hello my name is Chase and I am a Q4 ACE student. Outside of the classroom I enjoy exploring the Philadelphia area and trying new food spots. I am also passionate about the gym and keeping up with friends. My previous major was Biology from Rowan University. I used to work as a medical scribe in the emergency department at RWJ Barnabas Health Community Hospital in NJ. The only research experience I have is from completing required research assignments to attain my Biology degree. I expect this course to supplement my knowledge in the nursing field on specific issues and modern improvements to care. I'm looking forward to finishing this course!

I do not have any work experience in a healthcare setting besides working in a nursing home in high school! I also have not had any experience with research. Hey Everyone! My name is Brigid. I am a Quarter 4 ACE Student. My interests outside of the classroom include going to the gym, running, baking, reading, trying new restaurants and bars with my friends, and going to the beach. I got a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Old Dominion University. I also swam for all four years of my undergrad. Previously, I have worked as a phlebotomist at a few different plasma donation centers. I do not have any co-op or research experience, expect for the required science labs that went along with my various coursework. I am hopeful to gain some insight into the research side of nursing to help see the total big picture. I also think research provides for a bunch of different career paths which will be interesting to see, specifically for nursing.

Family time is extremely important to me and so every year my family and I visit a new country or 2 where we explore and spend quality time together. Hi! My name is Mikaela and I am a Q4 ACE student. My interests outside the program involve cooking, traveling, finding new places to eat, going to markets, and playing with my pomapoo, Milo! My previous degree was in Neuroscience and Public Health at Tulane University. Previously, I have worked as a Medical Assistant in Dermatology and as a Medical Scribe in the ED. I went to a health professions high school which allowed us a lot of shadowing opportunities! I took AP Research in high school where I wrote a research paper on the benefits of breastmilk and did a little research while in college. I am excited to see how this course can help me integrate research with our nursing didactic knowledge and apply this in different careers in nursing and further education. Hi hi! I am Morgan and I am so close to being done with the ACE program! I am in Q4 and so proud of myself and everyone for making it this far! When I am not in class I am hanging at home with my cat and my partner probably watching Netflix or playing Mario Party. I love trying new restaurants and hanging out with my friends for a little self care. I love going to the beach and always down for a happy hour moment. I got my first bachelors degree in Psychology from Rutgers University-New Brunswick. I also took some nursing prerequisites at a community college near my house. I have experience in working as a mental health technician in a psychiatric hospital and working as a nursing assistant in pre-op and post-op. I've never had any research experience and never felt fully invested in research as I like more hands on care with patient interaction. Maybe this class will change that for me! I hope to gain from this class skills to make me a well qualified new graduate nurse! I don't know much about what we will do in this class but excited to see what this class has in store for us this quarter!

Hello,

My name is Michelle and I am currently in my fourth quarter of the ACE program. I enjoy ice skating, listening to music, and traveling. I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology at San Diego State University.

I've had some experience working in patient care in San Diego. During my undergraduate studies, I gained research exposure at the Center of Teratology at SDSU, where we investigated the effects of alcohol on newborn rats. I also worked in the spatio-temporal brain imaging lab under Dr. Marinkovic, studying the impact of alcohol abuse versus light alcohol use on the brain. In these labs, my role was more focused on clinical assistance rather than writing. I'm excited about this course to learn more about research in nursing education.

My name is Devin and I am in my 4th quarter of the ACE program. Outside of the classroom I love to bake, read, go to the gym, and spend time with my friends and family. I got my undergraduate degree from West Chester in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a minor in Psych. I currently work as a PCT on a tele/stroke floor. I participated in research for a gene linked to cancer in undergrad and had to write several research papers. Hi! I'm Jenn and am currently in my fourth quarter of ACE. In my free time I like to be outside, whether it's at the beach surfing or hanging out with friends. I've also spent a lot of time exploring Philly as I'm pretty new to the area. I majored in biobehavioral health and psychology at Penn State. Over the summer I usually work as a CNA which is my only experience, but have volunteered at many health clinics throughout the years. I have taken multiple research classes, but do not have experience working on research projects or in a lab. Hi everyone, my name is Taylor and I am currently a Q4 ACE student. For my first degree, I majored in psychology at Rutgers University. When I am not studying, I enjoy spending time with my loved ones (nothing beats being surrounded by people who make you laugh until you cry), sight-seeing, & going to museums! I worked in case management for a little and I also spent some time working as a psych tech in an inpatient pediatric and adult psych unit. During undergrad, I was a research assistant in a social psychology lab, helping PhD students gather data on implicit racial bias. I would interview students who participated in the lab's research studies. Throughout my time in undergrad, I have wrote some research papers. I am looking forward to learning how nursing research is executed! :)

Hey! My name is Sabrina and I'm currently in Q4 in the ACE program. Outside of the classroom, I love to stay active whether that is at the gym or just walking outside. I also love to spend as much time as possible with family and friends. I went to Drexel for undergrad where I graduated with a Psych degree. I then graduated from Temple with my Master's in Occupational Therapy. When I was in undergrad, I did a co-op at a neurocognitive rehab where I worked as a cognitive therapist. At the rehab, it was there that I was introduced to research when I was asked to help one of the psychiatrists who was running a study to see the impact of meditation on patients with traumatic brain injuries. I was the one running the meditation groups as well as gathering data such as performing memory tests, questionnaires, and so fourth. Unfortunately, my co-op ended before the study was finished, but it was amazing to see what goes into a research study like that. Honestly, research has never been a strong suit of mine and it is difficult to grasp my attention, however, I understand the importance of research especially in a field like nursing. I look forward to learning more that I can hopefully take with me in my future as a nurse.
