The thing cased to 2 Christchurch eaThe first, in September 2010, registered 7.1 on the Richter scale and was centred close to Darfield.

This was caused by movement along fault lines west of the city beneath the Canterbury Plains. Geologists were able to directly measure the movement of the longest fault (the Greendale Fault) because it created a deep scar along the ground.

The earthquakes was along the westcity lines of the city Canterbury Plains.

Liquefaction is a something when the strength and power of dirt is reduced a earthquake or other rapid movement.
