Questioning what we hear, read and view does indeed contribute to our ability to be educated and engaged citizens because sometimes people that are under the guise of educating us are actually attempting to mislead us for their own gain. So, if we question these potentially false things and then do our own research, then we will become more educated and engaged citizens.

I would express my thoughts if I see that the thoughts are meant to be heard or will help in a situation or scenario, however, I may not express my thoughts if I am worried about how people will react to said thoughts or I may not share my thoughts because of restrictions or the way I was taught how to handle them.

Questioning what we are being asked can help understand the reasons and backgrounds of the question and can help us give an educated answer.

Exploring stories and other texts does help us understand ourselves and make connections because wise people that have had much more experience in the world than us (especially the younger generation) can give us valuable advice on what has happened in the past and how to repeat or not repeat those discoveries and/or mistakes. Mistakes should be made once, and then learned from and never repeated again.

What makes it easier or makes me able to express myself is through the music I listen to , the people around me, lricysm ( meaning just writing lyrics whenever I feel like it and not doing anything with them ) and talking to people who have or are feeling similar to me. What stops me from expressing my thoughts is the environment around me and the people within that environment, judgement, fear and trust.

I personally think that what we hear, read and view contributes to our ability to be educated citizens by a large percentage because sometimes people can say things that can misguide us and take us to the wrong direction hence we have to think twice before taking in any information that crosses our ears otherwise you'll just be a gullible person if you believe and agree to everyone.

It can help us understand ourselves however if the story is irrelevant to our lives and is too fictional to relate to real life situations we cannot understand ourselves better through that.

What stops me from expressing my thought is not having enough information to justify my thuoughts. What does not stop me is if I am ready to advocate for my though or prove someone wrong

Being in a situation where expressing your thoughts is necessary to create a change is a good motivator for me to write. Trying to write about a topic that bores me makes my writing sloppy, for example trying to write a poem that is about an uninteresting subject, and only doing it for a grade.

Mithra - As a person, allowing myself to also write my thoughts and constantly question them helps me express my thoughts. This is because I feel as though I can then only rely on the thoughts to support my points.

However, I feel as though judgment from others as well as the fear of being "wrong" stops me from this. This causes restrictions of my thoughts, all so that I am not thought less of.

In my opinion, seeing others expressing their thoughts through advocacy, visual art, or music can influence me to take inspiration and express my thoughts. Seeing others can also impact the lengths I go through to express my thoughts/ get my opinion heard. (e.g. speaking out against the government)

An example of this is the Israel - Gaza conflict whereby people are taking to social media to express their thoughts and opinions, additionally being brave enough to demonstrate on the streets despite retaliations from governments.

To summarise, something that motivates me to express my thoughts is peer pressure.

On the contrary, peer pressure is also something that deters me (its a double edged sword). Expressing my opinion could be more difficult if the majority has a different perspective than me because I would fear being targetted.

-Asking me at random times about how I feel about certain things.

Feeling represented and included within a society, community or group can make me feel comfortable expressing my thoughts and opinions. Exploring different forms of writing can encourage me to feel more comfortable with sharing my opinion.

For example when sharing in a classroom setting, depending on the class I feel more or less confident depending on the environment (teacher, students, subject).

On the contrary, feeling excluded from a group, community or society deters me from expressing my thoughts and opinions. For majority, it is more favourable for me to express my opinion in a comfortable environment, opposed to a setting with people who may criticize or object my opinion.

Exploring other people's writing pieces helps me connect to others and the rest of the world. For example: if you read a piece of text that's about what you are going through or an event that's also occurring in your life, it will share a different perspective other than mine which will help me look at the situation differently, helping me approach the problem better or worse. Another example is it will share knowledge about what's going somewhere else and help me choose a perspective on how I could view the event.

Mithra - Questions are vital tools to educating ourselves. This is due to the understanding we obtain from this. Questioning allows us to see not just what we are told, but instead evaluate other reasons as to why something may be. Not only this, but it helps us think twice about what we are told. For example, in Malala, the girls of the society are told that their only use is "simply to prepare food and give birth to children.", however, if the girls were to not question their value, they would not be educated enough to fight for themselves.
