The instrumental part of the tap is the bottom of the shoes there are two metal slabs that go on the toes and the heels.

All studios have different rules and preferences so we can't speak for everyone. For my studio for practices we usually wear clothes for physical activity including leggings and shirts but formally most studios wear leotards and tights. When it comes to performing the teachers can select a costume for the stage depending on the dance, music and theme.

Tap shoes have a lot of different varieties, for me personally I started off with Velcro shoes when I was around 6. Then I upgraded to laces which I had for many years not until last year I got the professional tap shoes. You may ask "what's the difference?". Well the difference between professional tap shoes is it makes way better sounds when taping which is extremely important for people who do a lot of taping dancing. Some studios have really fancy shoes with different colours and patterns which are very cool to look at, but most studios don't do that.

Tap dancing is made up of rhythm patterns. Learning and memorizing patterns is a great workout for your brain. Repeating, reversing and counting the rhythm patterns reinforces your thinking and improves your math skills because you are constantly.

Most dances are performed in the studio for the first months of learning the material, then depending on if you do competitive dance or recreational dance you might have competitions on stages then they compete against other groups. For me I have three competitions then a final show at the end, Which is always very emotional for the seniors going into college. Some people have lots more competitions than I do, I've seen some people go to almost 6 every year which is a lot but some people don't really appreciate how difficult that is.
