Long long ago, in a state far far away...

I was born in Bloomington, Indiana and lived there until I was 7. We moved to Texas in 1980 (just happened to be one of the hottest years on record for Texas). My father was a systems analyst for a banking software company and the move to Texas would provide better opportunities for our family.

Through middle school and high school I began to become more interested in technology. Of course at this time the technological landscape, especially in education, was very different. My interests were in gaming and low level programming in basic. These activities inspired me to pursue a career in technology many years later.

I attended Texas Tech University where I earned my B.A. of Technical Communication in 1997. This degree helped me get into the world of technology as I got my first job out of college at Texas Instruments writing documentation for their corporate services division.

In 2010, I received my Masters of Theology from Liberty University. Now I am working on my second Maters degree this time in STEM from William Woods University.

Before getting into education, I spent ten years working in the IT industry. Once I graduated from Texas Tech, I went to work at Texas Instruments as a documentation specialist. It was here that I learned about server administration and custom web design. Our department maintained the companies intranet and server farm.

After TI, I worked at several other companies where I directed the IT department. This included stops in the manufacturing industry, construction, and technical services. After a few years of the same old thing, I decided it was time for a change and left the corporate world for education. This may sound crazy but education provided a daily challenge that was ever changing so how could one get bored.

I have been in education for the past 15 years and have served as teacher, coach, department chair, accreditation chair, director of IT, and high school principal.

I am back in the classroom after a four year journey as the High School Principal. I leaned quite a bit as an administrator and the most important thing was that I missed being a teacher.

I currently teach AP Computer Science, AP Computer Science Principles, Intro to Engineering and Technology, Ethics, and Robotics. With these preps I am always looking for better ways to reach my students and keep them engaged while teaching them to think critically, problem solve, and communicate.

I spend a great deal of my time staying organized and teaching my students to do the same. I am a believer in technology but also believe that it is a tool and we should not blindly turn our lives over to it. My goal each year is to give my students real world examples of how technology can work for them instead of them working for technology.
