In this journal, a research study was done on yellow-toothed cavies. In the experiment, male and female guinea pigs were separated. The males had access to the females, but not to one another. The final results were that females were willing to mate with more than one male and males desired to mate with several females. In conclusion, both male and female guinea pigs are polygamous.
http://eds.b.ebscohost.com.libproxy.lib.ilstu.edu/eds/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?sid=70c41fa4-d1d9-49dd-8e47-fc9d7f383fb8%40sessionmgr102&vid=3&hid=104

In this study, guinea pigs were reared with different groups of male to female conspecifics. It was found that sexual and courtship behavior are not associated with the dominance of the guinea pig. However, they tend to stay near guinea pigs of the same sex based on the level of sex drive. The conclusion made was that the tendency towards courting is an intrinsic trait.
http://eds.a.ebscohost.com.libproxy.lib.ilstu.edu/eds/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?vid=12&sid=f989585b-9891-4d53-9bf3-47760bd3cb6e%40sessionmgr4006&hid=4111
