  • Teach children that making healthy choices, keeps their bodies healthy.
  • Show fun ways to incorporate healthy foods onto plates, like "eating the rainbow". That ensures a fun way to get a variety of healthy foods. 
  • Introducing the benefits of physical fitness, and providing opportunities to incorporate physical fitness into everyday activities. 
  • Educate students on the importance of oral health and even include them in lessons. Have a dental week and learn about teeth, and how to properly care for them. 
  • Talk about prevention of illness and proper hand washing techniques.
  • Teach students about first aid, and how to do basic wound care.
  • Teach students about harmful things for our bodies. Some things may be advertised and seem fine, but they can be very unhealthy.
  • Discuss personal body boundaries and the difference between good and bad touching, and how to say “no” and tell a trusted adult about bad touching.

    • Students should be writing with more detail and structure. 
    • Write and learn about how to write in different ways, like poems, paragraphs, letters, fiction/nonfiction, etc. 
    • Write stories that have a timeline or sequence of events. 
    • Encourage students to write and express opinions about writing they have read. 
    • Have students practice writing thank you notes, and letters to a pen pal. 
    • Leave notes and ask students to leave notes as well. 
    • Encourage writing and brainstorming ideas.

    • Discuss why rules and laws exist and how they are made to keep people safe, 
    • Explain the effect that we have on our environment and the community that we live in. 
    Art
    • Present a variety of art in different mediums to students.
    • Have students experiment with different mediums to create their own arts. 
    • Explore different types of movement and dance.
    • Watch performances and discuss them 
    • Readers theatre and dramatic play helps spark creativity.
    • Encourage dancing.
    • Model audience skills and how to react to art displays.

Any concerns should be relayed to a parent to by discussed with a doctor, nurse, or health provider.

    If you feel your student/ child is struggling in an area, you can request a special education evaluation. A written request by the parent and teacher must be submitted and then the student will be evaluated by a qualified professional. After the evaluation has been done, there will be a meeting to discuss the observations and then see if there is a need for support and develop a plan from there. 

    If you feel your student/child is highly capable, then information for district resources can be requested.
