Story of Zeus

Zeus met his father for the first time when he was introduced to Cronus as the new cupbearer. Zeus and his mother, Rhea prepared a potion for Cronos to drink in order for him to vomit up Zeus's siblings. They mixed salt and mustard into nectar and when Cronus drank the drink, he vomited up all of his children, Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades and Poseidon. The gods were perfectly unharmed and very much alive. Zeus was crowned king of the gods. Cronus was furious so he called on the Titans, his half-brothers to fight against the younger gods. Zeus led the Cyclopes and the Hundred-handed Ones into battle. In the end, Zeus won because of a trap he laid on the mountain. Hundred-handed Ones hurled boulders at the Titans and they fled. Finally, the gods climbed up Mount Olympus where Zeus became their leader.

1. Zeus was unfaithful to his wives and took on many lovers. His infidelity caused his seventh and final wife Hera to become jealous and plot revenge on the lover.
2. Zeus was very arrogant and prideful and it caused him to overlook the possibility of Hera noticing his infidelity. When he was found to be wrong, he never apologized nor did he feel remorse.
3. Zeus had some human flaws, one of them being his lack of empathy. Even though Hera was angry and jealous of his lovers, he never stopped. He didn't consider his wife's feelings and simply gave in to his own desires.
4. Zeus didn't learn from his mistakes because, being the king of the gods, he was never punished. He didn't have to deal with the consequences of his actions so he never learned.
5. Another one of his human flaws was his selfishness. Even though he crowned Hera queen of Olympus, he didn't give her equal power.

Empathy is an incredibly important emotion that people need to learn in order to consider problems from different angles. In Greek mythology, Cronus was afraid that one of his children would usurp him from his throne, so he ate his children. He did this from a selfish standpoint and didn’t consider his wife’s feelings about having her children eaten. This resulted in the battle of between the Titans and the gods because Rhea saved her last child who eventually overpowered Cronus. If Cronus had thought about his wife’s feelings, he would have acted differently. He might have chosen to keep and raise his children properly, so they would not have decided to go against him. Cronus never learned to feel empathy and therefore faced the consequences of his own actions. That’s how Greek mythology demonstrates the importance of feeling for others.
