Photographer: Ernst Bröte

Landscape: Merrick Butte

Location: Monument Valley in the extreme northeast of Navajo County, Arizona.

Geomorphic process: The top layer of the butte is a hardened layer of rock that is resistant to erosion. The top layer, called the caprock, is usually composed of sedimentary rock, but sometimes is the remains of cooled and hardened lava that had spread out across the landscape in repeated flows from fissures or cracks in the ground.

Reasons to visit it: If you visit Merrick Butte you get to see the breathtaking sunrise from the most famous viewpoint in Monument Valley. It is a sight you never want to miss. There is also a hiking track “wildcat trail” It is great for the whole family to get involved with. Also, Enjoy one of the best starry skies in the United States with the silhouette of the main rocks of the Valley. I assure you this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Firstly it is a great destination to get fresh air and to relax. did you know that Uluru has been around for more than 500 years, wow! That's amazing
Dinner under a canopy of stars is an experience you will never forget, The Sounds of Silence experience starts with sunset canapes on a sand dune before moving to a bush tucker-inspired buffet including crocodile, kangaroo and barramundi. This is living luxuriously in the wild. Have you ever thought of that crazy amazing idea? You can even buy a painting from one of the local aboriginals. This supports them and when you bring it home you have a special memory of your amazing trip. Do you want to support our local Australians?
