The ship had to send out a Mayday call to get everyone to shore. There was 1,373 people on board and almost 500 people were airlifted off in bad weather. There was 26 foot waves and wind gusts of 43 mph. Smaller rescue boats weren’t a safe option because of the dangerously high swells.
