I have been an interpreter for twenty-two years (this is my second career) and climate change interpretation has been a part of my programming, messaging, and planning for all of that time. And wow, how things have changed from the days of speaking at dinner parties after in-home viewings of An Inconvenient Truth!

Before joining the Earth To Sky Team, I worked at various levels of interpretation from front-line to executive management; in non-profit conservation, for-profit enviro-tourism, and also civil service parks & recreation.

My passion for public interpretation is only eclipsed by my absolute love for training and professional development. My favorite day of every year, in every position I've ever held was always the first day of staff interp training!

In my personal time, I am an avid gardener, hiker, camper, and mountain biker. My wife, our 5-year-old triplets, and I love to explore the wild and rugged landscapes and fascinating cultural sites of the four corners region.

I am also a voracious reader (and listener) of books. I'm told I read like others watch TV. I have 4 or 5 books both fiction and non-fiction going at the same time. I am always up for a good recommendation - especially if it's climate related!

I look forward to spending the next few weeks with you all! While we work together to share new ways of knowing and communicating about climate change, and build our community of practice. Our work to help solve the climate crisis is hard, but together I know we can make a difference for the world now and the future.

We use tools from our Planetarium & Nature Dome Theater to guided trail walks to help people make connections to the complex and imperiled place we call home along with so many other species.

Before arriving at NASA, Devon graduated from SUNY ESF, completed a year of service as a Field Team Leader in Americorps NCCC Southern Region, and gained experience as a Science Interpretive Tour Guide at the Sitka Sound Science Center in Alaska, and worked as the Communications Coordinator at the National Park Trust in Maryland.

Devon is passionate about environmental communications, and looks forward to using her background in the sciences, plus her interpretation experience to create meaningful connections between NASA, NPS, and NOAA while working at Earth to Sky.

I have been involved in interpretation and place-based environmental education for a long time. Currently, I work as an independent contractor with my gig Wild Rose Education (it's 9 years into it) working in the educator/interpreter professional development field working through topics of the Colorado River Basin, climate change, public lands, and the Arctic Ocean and sea ice. In many ways, I am a photographer who found his way into storytelling. That tendency to focus on the visual really effects how I go about things. I'm curious to learn from everyone on how their perspective shapes their storytelling.

This morning my windshield was covered in little dried out red dots, took me a moment to understand what I was looking at... It was bat guano from last night. The Lesser Long-nosed Bat are currently feasting on the Organ Pipe fruit, and they left the evidence of this on my windshield.

I served in the US Coast Guard as a Public Affairs Specialist where I documented oil and chemical spills, human migration and trafficking, drug and law enforcement and searched for lost boaters. I continue to serve in the Coast Guard Auxiliary rising to Captain, overseeing the nearly 1200 volunteers in our area, followed by supervising our Marine Safety people.

I’m now the editor of the Contra Costa County UC Master Gardener Newsletter where I cover new and interesting ways to save water, firescape, track invasive species and so much more.

I’m also a longtime Docent at the Rosie the Riveter World War II National Historic Park, where I focus on the many ways that women entered the workforce, built 747 ships and equipped 66000 vehicles. We also explore the history of the Japanese and Japanese American incarceration and the explosion at Port Chicago.

I’m also an active UC Naturalist and UC Climate Steward. And finally, I’m a Road Runners Clubs of America State Rep overseeing more than 100 running clubs and running events.

I am originally from Central New York and have a Bachelor's in Environmental Biology from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. I have a Master's certificate in Science Writing from Johns Hopkins University and a M.S. in Natural Resources Conservation with a focus in sustainable communities from Paul Smith's College.

At the VIC, I work with local and regional schools throughout New York State focus on place-based education and connections to nature and the Adirondacks. I also lead and deliver professional development and teacher trainings.

I am a New York State Licensed Guide, Certified Interpretive Guide and Wilderness First Responder all of which inform my work in environmental and outdoor education.

Outside of work, I enjoy paddling, climbing, hiking, biking, skiing. I also love to read, paint/draw, nature journal.

Natural Resources from Colorado State University and had a long and satisfying career as

a Park Ranger and Interpretive Manager with the National Park Service and US Forest

Service. With Earth to Sky, John loves to bring people together through the critical work

of climate change communication. John lives in rural Vermont where you can Rind him

struggling to keep up with his wife, two children, and dog, Mia. John is a stubborn

optimist.

I work remotely from here in Eagle River, AK (just outside Anchorage); I support and consult with Earth to Sky on many of the courses and on-line events being planned. I especially enjoy our Virtual meetings which we hold a couple times each month - let me know if you want to know more about them.

Often I can't believe I live in HANNIBAL, MO on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER! I have a background in theater and storytelling and got into nature education at the Shaw Nature Reserve in St. Louis. Though I grew up in Vermont and always thought I'd move back, I have now spent most of my adult life in Missouri and have come to appreciate its ecological diversity as a meeting place of North and South, East and West. The landscape changes significantly south of the Missouri River with its old Ozark mountains and hills (reminding me of VT) to north of it where the glaciers last receded and once prairies swept across the plains.
