Eddie showed that he was able to come up with a quick plan to help him and the other guys to escape. Eddie used his abilities he learned at the pier to help escape and live.

This is probably one of the most important scenes in the book to this point. Eddie ended up forgiving his father for everything he ever did to him as a child. Eddie had to learn to forgive which was one of the hardest things for him to do because his dad did abuse him for his whole life. Eddie had so much hate towards his dad that letting it go was one of the best things he could do for himself because the hate hurt them both. Eddie was mentally drained from hating his dad so much.
