Dear Mom and Dad

Happy Chinese New Year! I couldn't make it back this year, but I want to tell you how I celebrated Chinese New Year in Japan.

A few of us Malaysian students here decided to have our own mini celebration. We cooked some rendang chicken and tangyuan, which wasn't quite like yours, mom, but we tried our best.

We decorated our room with some 'tanglong', light and played some traditional festival songs. It felt a little like home.

I even managed to video call Auntie Elena and see all the festivities happening there. It made me feel closer to everyone. It's very unique experience to share our culture with my local friends who were curious about Chinese New Year.

Dear mom dan dad, I hope both of you are in pink. I really missed being with you during the festival this year. It was my first time celebrating it away from home, and it felt a little different, but I tried my best to keep our traditions alive. First and foremost, I celebrated the day with a few Malaysian friends here. We wore traditional clothes, cooked our favourite dishes together such as chicken rendang and kuih. Furthermore, we decorated our place with colourful lights. Moreover, we shared stories from our childhood and listened to festive music to make it feel more like home. I really miss you both, and I hope we can celebrate together next year. Please send my regards to everyone back home. See you both soon. Goodbye!

Dear Mom and Dad,

I hope both of you are doing well. I miss celebrating Chinese New Year with the family back home, but I wanted to share how I kept the tradition alive here in Germany.

To start the day, I cleaned my apartment to symbolize a fresh start, just like we do at home. I decorated with red lanterns and couplets to bring good luck. I invited some friends over, both Malaysians and locals, to share our culture. I managed to prepare some traditional dishes like dumplings, spring rolls, and even yu sheng for a simple "lou sang." Everyone loved it!

We also watched the lion dance on YouTube and exchanged red packets (though we used chocolate coins instead of real money). It was heartwarming to explain the customs and stories behind Chinese New Year to my friends.

While it wasn’t the same as celebrating with all of you, it still felt special in its own way. I hope your celebrations at home were filled with joy, good food, and lots of laughter. I miss all of you so much and can't wait to reunite for the next festive season.

Hi. Happy Deepavali mom and dad. I hope you are fine there. I'm fine here. Since it's Deepavali it was more beautiful festival scenery there although I staying at a apartment but I still celebrate Deepavali here. Luckily my roommate was an Indian so I can celebrate with him. Firstly we put our traditional art which is kolam,wear new traditional dress, went to temple and cook our signature traditional food. By the way there is not to many Indian here in London so the city was not to fantastic with colourful Deepavali banners and fireworks compared to Malaysia which is more fantastic. Hi mum and dad, I hope you both are doing great. I’m so sad I’m not able to fly back for the festival. The festival reminds me so much of our memories together, I really miss it. I’m here to email how I celebrated it here in Canada. First, I watched the live video on YouTube to celebrate the festival so I won’t be bored. I also cooked some of the famous dishes from the festival and ate them alone since my friends were out. Lastly, I wanted to video call with you both but a project kept me really busy. I really hope I can come back to Malaysia for the festival. Missing you guys a lot!

Dear Mom and Dad,

I hope my email makes your day! I always try to keep our culture alive by speaking Bahasa Malaysia, eating local food, and spending time with other Malaysians. I also share our traditions with my worldwide friends so they could learn more about Malaysian's culture.

Studying abroad is quite hard, but it's fun too.However, I’m doing my best to make new friends and enjoy the experience while never forgetting my hometown.

Last but not least, I believe that maintaining our national identity while adjusting to a new culture is something to be proud of. Staying connected with our traditions, language, and people helps me stay confident wherever I go.

Dear Mom and Dad,

I hope you are doing well.I really missed being home for the festival this year,but I still tried to make it special even though I am studying abroad.

To maintain our national identity,I wore my traditional attire and cooked some Malaysian dishes like nasi lemak and kuih muih.I even shared our culture with my international friends by showing them Petronas festival advertisements on YouTube.They were amazed by how Malaysians celebrate together with so much unity and harmomy.

Celebrating away form home was not easy.I felt homesick and missed our family traditions.We gathers for a small celebration and reminded each other of home.

I am proud to be a Malayisan and will continue to share our culture wherever I go.
