People were getting tired of the unfair ways of Haitian living so they took a stand. The leader of the revolution was Toussaint Louverture. He was born a slave and then freed, so he had known what the pain had felt like. He tried to become president but Diaz stopped him.  Multiple people started organizing the plan and the revolution started.
