Able to transport goods from place to place a lot quicker than what could be done on by horsedrawn carriages. The steam locomotive is also able to hold a lot more goods which means that more places are able to get more goods which means there is more of something to buy for consumers which expands their economy. And finally, steam locomotives can transport consumers to other places to buy things that don’t exist in their place of origin, like tourists, which are known to also expand and grow the economy.

Great Britain was refusing to stop trading opium in China which was getting everyone addicted to a deadly drug. This led to the Opium wars which were fought mostly at sea and China’s outdated ships were no match for Britain's Industrialized steam powered gunships. This led to the Treaty of Nanjing (1842) which gave Britain Hong Kong and made foreigners immune to Chinese law. The war just goes to show how much more powerful an industrialized country is compared to one that refuses to.

England was the only country to have control of India and everything coming out of it. The British India company set up trading posts on every major port. They took every natural resource available in India including Fine spices, Tea, and coffee, textiles (Silk, Cotton) and porcelain, making it their most valuable colony and was even strategically placed for easy trading with China. A lot of money was coming out of these colonies, making them very important.

This showed that the African countries and people were not important to the Europeans and all they cared about was their land and resources, showing what imperialism is all about.
