By now the flame had gone to either side of the gum wrapper.

Okay so the protag and antag were madly in love with each other, everyone sa them as perfect. 
Lets say that they are royalty for the hell of ot, the protag has a bit more power then the antag but they both rule the same country
The protag starts noticing subtle differences in the antag, their personality slowly changes and they become power hungry and corrupted, very mentally unstable. Then, they decide they are going to take over the country, aay from the protag. they try to kill the protag in sleep but cant bring themselves to do it. blah blah make up some stuff, antag gets puts in jail lets say but has outside connections and they bail him out. Then, he decides he is going to start a army and go to war with the protag. It would certainly be interesting

She stared with a small smile.
"You will not disappoint." Her voice was kind while her stare was anything but, dripping with greed. I am but a pawn I suppose. Meant to mother whatever ungrateful whelps a suitor probably much colder than I would make me carry.
I sucked in an unsteady breath, feeling her fingertips burn into my skin.
Her head tilted to the left, eyeing my cheeks from side to side.
"Oh, darling, what a gluttonous pig you've become, you cheeks are more rounder than they were yesterday!" she tutted, dropping her hands. "You'll have to keep away from lunch today. Pity." Pity doesn't even begin to describe it. Starvation, maybe, but pity surely wasn't it. 
She dropped a heavy sigh and let go of me, pushing me out of her way.
"You should go inside for now." she dismissed me.
