LESSON TYPE: Intermediate Class

DURATION:A Period (45min)

OBJECTIVES;
*To help the players understand more about checkmate.
*To check different scenarios, approaches and responses if any.
*To know how to checkmate with a queen and a king only.

METHOD;
Welcome players to class.

Reiterate the importance of the class

Review some of our last discussions.

Ask the players to discuss check, checkmate and stalemates in 5 mins.

Discuss their views generally with them.

Explain the lesson for the day for easy conceptualization.

Demonstrate this on the demo board.

Explanation in details.

It's the connection of the queen and the king against the opponent's king by pushing it to the edge of the board.

Keep moving your king until a square away then move your queen to mate the opponent.

Note;Ensure you avoid a stalemate by ensuring your queen is always in a safe square.

Sample Notation
Black King on h7
White Queen on g7
White King on f6.

MATERIALS (chess mats and pieces,demo board and pieces ,a white queen,a white King and a black King)

EVALUATION:
Players to try similar scenarios on the demo board and explain reason for every move.

Switch color for players to try this out individually on their chess mats.

PHASES:
Creating the idea or concept for the players,show them on the demo, allow them to create theirs, minding the rules.

Reflection: Emphasize the likelihood of a stalemate and help them to avoid this.

REMARK:
They all understood the concept and did theirs correctly, except for one who will revisit and work more on this.
