Rose keeps her composure upon receiving Troy's confession of infidelity and doesn't berate his character, but rather question Troy's character. " 'All of a sudden it's "we." Where was "we" at when you was down there rolling around with some godforsaken woman? "We" should have come to an understanding before you started making a damn fool of yourself. You're a day late and a dollar short when it comes to an understanding with me.' "
Next, Rose is influenced by what she thinks is best for the sake of her family's wellbeing and her family's aspirations, namely Cory. She acts to provide care and love in hopes of growing closer with Troy and Cory. She also does her best to further Cory's dream of entering the big leagues in baseball.

Through her words she expresses her values, beliefs and philosophies concerning life. Rose continuously advocates for Cory's dreams and expresses the importance of her commitment to Troy despite the difficulties as long as they were together. To quote Rose, as she fiercely replied to Troy's excuse of "needing" an outlet to forget his responsibilities by having an affair, as she expressed how she's being taken for granted, "I been standing with you! I been right here with you, Troy. I got a life too. I gave eighteen years of my life to stand in the same spot with you. Don’t you think I ever wanted other things? Don’t you think I had dreams and hopes? . . . Don’t you think it ever crossed my mind to want to know other men? That I wanted to lay up somewhere and forget about my responsibilities? That I wanted someone to make me laugh so I could feel good? . . . But I held on to you, Troy. I took all my feelings, my wants and needs, my dreams . . . and I buried them inside you." Troy's attempt to justify his infidelity is absolutely insulting to Rose and this reflects on her words.

As for what Rose notices, she discerns the changes that occur in contemporary time and understands that the world doesn't stop moving no matter what happens in your life span.
