Week 2 : Preparing Prayer (Solat) with Khusyu'

For this week, we had an online usrah session. Sr Zulaikha had shared with us such an interesting topic which is Khusyu' in Solat. Solat is the first thing that will be asked to us in yaumul qiyamah ( The Day of Judgment ).

According to Sheikh Muhammad bin Soleh al-'Uthaimin :

The first thing that a servant will count among his deeds on the Day of Judgement is prayer

This is related to the rights of Allah SWT. If his prayer is good, then he has succeeded and vice versa.

Imam al-Syaukani also commented : "Khusyu' according to some scholars is the act of the heart such the feeling of afraid and fearful. While others state that it is the actions of someone, where he is calm, does not move too much during prayer, or does not do or think of anything unbeneficial in prayer". Literally, khusyu' is defined as calm, tawadhu' (humility), fear and humble. Terminologically, khusyu' refers to a state of the heart characterized by humility, submission, and attentiveness to Allah during acts of worship, particularly in solat (prayer).

Khusyu' does matter in Solat because :

Solat is the second pillar of Islam and a direct connection with Allah.

Khusyu' ensures focus, humility, and sincerity in prayer

Khusyu' makes solat meaningful and spiritually fulfilling

Demonstrates complete submission and devotion to Allah

How to achieve khusyu' ?

Prepare mentally and physically: Purify intentions, perform wudhu' (ablution), wear clean attire.

Understand the meanings of recitations

Choose a quite and clean place for solat

Avoid distractions : keep gadgets away

Visualize standing before Allah ( IHSAN )

Prayer at the beginning of the time

Do not solat at the moment when the food is ready or in uncomfortable situation

There's also some effects of khusyu' in daily life and Hereafter, such as, increases mindfulness and discipline, strengthens connection with Allah, promotes inner peace and reduces stress and also rewards in the Hereafter which is acceptance of prayers and closeness to Allah.

That's all thank you.

Week 4 : 10 Lessons of Ramadhan Fasting, Train Patience to Increase Gratitude

This week, we had dive into a topic about fasting in Ramadhan and its lessons to us. Alhamdulillah, Ramadhan month is just around corner and we all know that it is the most merciful month among those 12 Islamic month. In Ramadhan we could learn a lot of lessons that literally gives benefits to our life. Those lessons are :

Increase Dedication

increase devotion to Allah Ta'ala because a person is willing to endure hunger, thirst, and things that cancel it in order to hope for a reward to Him

"O you who believe, it is obligatory for you to fast as it is obligatory for those before you to be pious" (QS Al-Baqarah: 183)

Train Ourselves for Time Discipline

Muslims wake up in the early morning to eat suhoor and sometimes continued performing night prayers until Fajr prayers

Muslims break their fast and then perform tarawih prayers and carry out other practices such as reading the Qur'an or doing iktikaf

Practice Patience

Prophet Muhammad SAW strongly emphasized to his people to be patient during fasting by not saying dirty things and doing other things that cancel their worship

"If one of you is fasting, then do not speak dirty words and do not act stupidly. If anyone reproaches him or disturbs him, say, 'Indeed, I am fasting.'" (HR Bukhari and Muslim).

Curbing Orgasms

Fasting can restrain and curb orgasm because people who fast are prohibited from obeying their lust

"O young men, whoever among you has the ability, then marry. Because it will lower the gaze more and take care of the genitals more. And whoever is not able to do so, then fasting because fasting is a shield for him." (HR Bukhari and Muslim)

Weakening Syaitan's Temptations

the temptation of Syaitan will weaken because our blood vessels during fasting will shrink

The narrowing of human blood vessels will narrow the movement of demons that run in the human bloodstream

Healthy Heart and Body

Fasting can make the heart healthy because fasting will hold one's orgasm and extinguish the cause of hostility that can bring about liver disease

"Remember that in the body there is a lump of flesh. If he is good, then the whole body is also good. If it is damaged, then the whole body is also damaged. Know that it is the heart." (HR Bukhari and Muslim)

Teaching the Meaning of Living Frugally and Simply

when the time for breaking the fast has arrived and we eat the various dishes available, we actually feel that one drink and one meal has made our stomachs feel full

we can learn a lesson that actually humans only indulge their lust when providing a variety of dishes on the table

Encourages Gratitude

A person will feel grace in the form of satiety and satisfaction. When the favor is gone, a person only feels how important the lost favor is.

It is a form of gratitude by realizing how important the blessings that have been held so far are.

Teaching Caring for the Weak

A person feel how difficult it is for a weak person who feels the pain of hunger and thirst every day

A person seems to participate in feeling the suffering of the poor who do not have excess wealth so that they encourage themselves to increase their concern

Awakening with Life Balance

Sometimes a person who is engrossed in his work becomes negligent in doing the sunnah worship, and may even abandon his obligations such as the five-time prayer

In the month of Ramadan, Muslims are reminded again that life must be balanced between this world and the hereafter.

That is among the wisdom of Ramadan fasting that can be interpreted by Muslims. Hopefully in this blessed holy month, Muslims can always maximize their fasting and carry out other worship to achieve the grace of Allah SWT.

That's all thank you !
