Chapter 1- The Release

The release can be something positive OR negative because it depends on the situation. Fore example, since the pilot was being honest they decide to release them. In the real world honesty is cherished. If you did something wrong and admit it, then you might either not be punished at all or have a small punishment. You would have a smaller punishment because you owned up to your mistakes, this is what people appreciate.

In the book, The Giver, the community focuses on sameness. When a person eats in apple they are supposed to eat the outside of the apple and throw away the inside. The utopia that Jonas lives in, it is structured to be a "perfect" utopia. I believe that the apple symbolizes on how theirs no variety. All apples are the same. When I say that I mean there is only ONE kind of apple.

Chapter 4- Giver and Sneetches

In the book The Giver, you have been told not to point of the different things. AFter all, their goal is a perfect utopia. But on the other hand, the sneetches point out the differences between other sneetches. Like how the sneetches with starts are better then the sneetches without stars. The sneetches without stars are similar to Jonas because they both want to be accepted. For example, In the book The Giver Jonas feels offended when his sister Lily brings up the topic how he is different from everyone because he has light eyes. In the sneetches, the sneetches without stars also feel not accepted and sad because they know they could never be the same as the others.

The utopia that Jonas lives in has standards and rules. One of the rules is that children are not allowed in House of Old. In the chapter 5 when Jonas was talking about his dream he was going through puberty. Which eventually everyone has to go through. The rules can sometimes be harder and more harsh because the children don't understand what is going on. After all, the adults have lived in the utopia longer then the children so they do know the rules and the common standards.

To insure his safety unlike others from the society, there is a lock in his door so nobody can come in. The receiver's house is also different from others because in his dwelling he has many books which is used to give him all the knowledge he needs.

In the book "The Giver", Jonas becomes the new Receiver of memory. This assignment will show and teach him things that nobody else knows about. When Jonas realizes that there are other people in this world other then his community, he is shocked. This is because he had always been told that they were the only community. This makes me believe that not knowing that there are other places in the world is GOOD. This is a good idea because since the community wants to eradicate anything that will stop the community from being perfect. Knowing there are others can change the way of life in a community like going on a strike, causing chaos etc.

When the Giver, switches the speaker off and locks the door, this shocks Jonas. Based on this, I can draw a conclusion that this shows that the community aren't able to do this. Instead the normal citizens cannot do any of this because they aren't as important.

In the book so far, we find out that Jonas is the new receiver. So the old receiver is now called the giver . The title of this book is called "The Giver" I think this because, the book is many about how the giver will give all his memories to Jonas. I find this title to be significant because the giver is now one of the most important character of the book. So when the GIVER GIVES his memories this is what makes it significant.
