There were 5 boys there. Grant, Logan, Shepherd, John Micheal, and Henry. The murder took place in fall/winter, so we know that it was cold and rainy. No other people were present besides the River Point Boys at the time of the murder. All 4 boys were present during the murder-nobody else. Grant was shot with a Remington Rifle. There was only one Remington;Grant Perkins was the owner of the Remington, but he often let his friends use it. Therefore there is no way to know who shot Grant. The boys didn't really know how to react because it was so shocking and they were under the influence. They were thinking that they were probably going to get in big trouble because they had all held the remington and the trail could lead to any one of them.
