Anne Fitzgerald

Anne Fitzgerald is the character who changed the most from the beginning to the end of the story. It was brought up in the beginning of the book that Anne was a devout nun, until she fell in love with a priest. She realized shortly after that she didn't belong with the rest of the nuns and left the order. She rejected God almost completely and was skeptical of every Christ-related thing that she came in contact with. She was soon hired as a detective by the Catholic Church's Archdiocese because there had been a string of outbreaks that caused millions of deaths and two "pregnant virgins." Because Anne was so moderate when it came to the Church, she was chosen to figure out if one of the virgins, Kathleen, was a virgin and if she was carrying the new Savior. At the end of the book she went from a skeptic to a whole-hearted believer of the Lord once again, just not so conservative this time. I believe that she changed the most from the beginning to the end because it's a life-changing decision to choose a Faith and change all of your beliefs and ideas to fit the rules of the religion.

Cradle and All deserved an 8/10 because of its interesting plot and descriptive writing style. James Patterson writes about two pregnant virgins, one carrying the devil, and one carrying the new Savior. With plague, death, and sorrow spread across the world everyone is hoping for the new Savior. The writing is incredibly descriptive and I really enjoyed how there were over six points of view. It made the book a lot easier to understand because the reader was seeing things from all sides. It takes a talented writer to be able to explain everyone's point of view while still keeping the ending a complete surprise. At every corner there was another twist and turn and it kept the reader on his/her toes. It was a very enjoyable book and I recommend everyone to pick it up and read it.

If I were in Anne's shoes i would be extremely conflicted about the job I'd been given as well. Though I must say, if I were a nun who fell in love with a priest, and he confessed his love for me, I definitely would NOT have turned him away. Anne turned him down because she was confused by her own faith and the fact that the priest wasn't supposed to love anyone. I am a very head-strong person so I would have just taken what I wanted when the opportunity presented itself. I believe that God gave man a woman because he needed love and companionship so I wouldn't have felt the confusion and guilt that Anne did at the time. I'm not exactly sure if I would believe Kathleen when she said that she was a virgin who was pregnant. Although there were a few instances that backed up her claim, there were a lot of instances that proved her claim inaccurate. Seeing as I am also a skeptic when it comes to people claiming they're carrying the son of God, I would've been extremely hesitant to believe that this popular, rich, and beautiful girl was a virgin, especially when she was openly hiding a secret about the pregnancy.
