<title>Phase 4 in Second GradeLike many of you I was feed up with close reading. I was confused with what we have been taught over the span of almost 3 years now. I was having an extremely difficult time with the process of close reading and finding articles/stories to read. Realizing that close reading is extremely fun for the students just as it is for me was mind blowing. I was extremely hesitant to continue with this story as the lexile is high. The first read had me nervous, as I believed students would not be able to make the inferences needed to comprehend. The students took me by surprise. The collaborative conversations shared on phase 3 were beyond gratifying. I enjoyed the dialogue my students shared with me and one another. Phase 4 only got better! Dr. Nunez gave me a great idea, having the students persuade the man to not chop down the tree just in case he was not sure. The students created videos with writing, drawings and voice over. I loved that even my non-readers/non writers were able to contribute to the class discussions and able to complete phase 4. </title>
