TRUMAN
When first asked the question, “is knowing more better?”, one might jump to conclusions and quickly answer yes or no, however, it isn’t just black and white. It is an all shades of gray question. This is why my picture isn’t in color. Truman grew up in a society where all he knew was controlled by his creator. (The white fenced house) He had the ability to think and dream, however, if those thoughts and ideas ever put him in the ‘danger’ of realizing he was in a television world (television), the creator would put an end to those thoughts. Despite that, throughout the movie, Truman was able to put pieces of the truth together and find out that there was a world outside of his own. His world was turned around after finding out the truth. (Truman looking distraught) His relationship with his wife ended. He realized that all his relationships were fake. He was scared. He didn’t want to stay because he was curious about the outside world, yet he wanted to explore it. It seems like knowing more turned his world upside down, and wasn’t better, however, because of his dedication and love for curiosity and belief in something greater, he left the only world he knew. Truman believed that knowing more was better. Knowing more brings challenges, as Truman experienced, but he was able to overcome those challenges and fears by believing in the fact that knowing more is better. (This is why I drew the lightbulb and the stairs along with Sylvia on the side where Truman knows and is challenged, but is able to overcome them.)

Poem written in the perspective of Iokaste's chambermaid, member of the choragus

** Note: Some parts of this poem rhymes and some parts don't. This was meant to be this way because it adds to the confusion of the perspective of the choragus when answering "Is knowing more - better?" .
