I could really see my students utilizing the "Collaboration Self-Assessment" when learning how to play in small ensembles. Middle school students often have difficulty getting started in rehearsal (organizing learning), identifying changes and encouraging group action for change (facilitating learning), and making everyone feel good about themselves during rehearsal (encouraging members).

Peer feedback gives students something to look forward to and work for throughout the project. I think it is great for rough drafts after they have self assessed.

By having students help create goals and parts to a project,

they are engaging in learning. When they are invested in this

way, they may desire to find new or creative ways to work

out that problem or task. I think this is the best way to promote

self-direction.

I especially like the self-assessment and reflection prompts. The reflective journals seem like great ways to reflect on their learning at the end of a unit.

I really liked the different forms, checklists and questions for the observing group work section. I think it's important for students to be involved in the self-monitoring of their collaboration skills when working in groups.
