So organizers came together to create a national identity, finding a word that would describe all of them. They settled on the word Hispanic around the years 1990's but the word came from Spain so it still really wasn't a good definition. But other words like Latinx, Latin American, Brown, and Latine were also words to describe these communities and people always wondered what was the correct word? The Nixon administration only came up with "Hispanic", meaning someone with historic or cultural relations to Spain, so that latinx people could have a name that unifies them to show that they are connected to each other. The term Latinx is a part of gender politics. Latine can also be used in place of Latino/Latina because some people think that latinx is hard to pronounce in Spanish.
