Columbus landed in Haiti with his men and he wasn't a friendly person. As soon as he landed he demanded authority and put fear into the Arawak people. There were many killings of those people and they were even stripped of their culture.

Slaves were now a addition for colonization over Saint Domingue which is also called Haiti. Slaves worked way too many hours. As long as the French were making money they did not care about the condition of their slaves.

1685: The Code Noir

The Code Noir or the Black Code is a document with articles that basically explain ways to control their slaves in every way possible. Children of slaves become slaves themselves, forbidding slaves from doing anything, and slave masters were legally able to kill their slaves if they try anything to harm them.

(1791) The Brave One- Toussaint Louverture

Toussaint Louverture led a successful slave revolt and emancipated the slaves in the French colony of Saint-Domingue. Toussaint was also a slave and he was fed up what they had to go through. Using the knowledge he gained from sneakily reading books as an enslaved person he became a leader in the Haitian Revolution.

1804 The Ending Of The Fight Between The French And The Rebel Forces

apoleon Bonaparte decreed that slavery be reinstated in all the French colonies in the Americas in 1802. Although Louverture’s arrest began a period of French control on the island, the French victory was short-lived. By 1803 rebel forces were victorious and in 1804 the new and independent Republic of Haiti emerged.

Haiti Economic Problem During Recent Years.

After gaining independence, they have had more economic problems more than ever. This is also happening in present day haiti. “Haiti is the poorest country in Latin America and the Caribbean and has some of the highest rates of income inequality worldwide. More than six in ten people live in poverty.”
