Question #2: Reflect upon these articles. Think through digital access and the digital divide.	What is it? Why do we have to provide digital access to our	students? Who is	impacted? What are the	legal, ethical,	cultural,	and	societal factors involved?

During our classes, we have discussed the importance of digital access, and allowing students to incorporate technology in their learning in order to help keep up with todays quickly and vastly growing digital community. Digital access is the amount of access that all people ( upper and lower class) have to good quality technology. We have to provide our students with digital access because it helps them have better control over their learning outcomes and helps them become better digital citizens in todays technological world. In today's society, especially in the upper level educational world, students are pretty much required to have access to technology their entire high school/college careers. This can be extremely difficult and limit the abilities of students of lower class status. Students of particular races and that come from lower income houses, tend to have less access to good quality technology, creating a greater strain on their academic and societal success. According to the article Digital Divide: College Students have unequal access to to reliable technology, "Problems with technology causes stress and affect academic performance at a time when students are routinely expected to use computers or other electronic devices for day-to-day class work, assignments and online readings..." If we are able to give students access to quality technology starting at a young age, and teach them how to use it as well as be good digital citizens, we will be better equipping them for the upper level educational world, and the working/social world once they enter it as adults.

Question #3:How	are	you	using (or will	you	use) digital tools in your	P12	classroom? Provide	at least one specific	example. How does the	notion of digital access	influence the	way	you use	(or will use) digital tools in your P12 classroom?

In our classes we have talked about a variety of digital tools that we can utilize in the classroom. We have discussed ways to use websites such as padlet, twitter, flipgrid, Lumen, and so many more. We have also talked about the different physical technologies that we can use with these websites such as SmartBoards, IPads, Chromebooks, and cellphones. I really like the idea of incorporating padlet in to my classroom. I think that it would be a great tool to use for a quick and effective exit slip to assess student learning for each subject. I could put a question on our classes padlet page, and then have the students use their IPads or Chromebooks to create a quick response to express their learning and understanding. Almost every school has at least a SmartBoard and half a classroom set if not a full classroom set of either computers or Ipads. I fully intend to utilize those technologies where ever I go to teach. Because digital access is such a pertinent component of student academic success as well as cultural/social success, I will ensure that I spend the time in my classroom teaching students the importance of digital citizenship, and allowing them ample opportunities to practice using the different digital tools. As Mike Ribble states in his excerpt from Digital Citizenship in Schools, "It is imperative that you teach [your students] rules of the digital world, and how to be safe and responsible with technology," because of how "Each day the world is becoming increasingly more digital." Also, according to the article, Digital Citizenship: Are You A Digital Citizen? "...all students should be provided with an opportunity to use technology effectively and successfully." That being said, I fully intent to utilize digital tools within my classroom to ensure the success in all areas of life.

Question #4: UDL: Consider how UDL fits into the digital access concept. In other words, without adequate access to technology, would your ability to utilize the UDL	framework for teaching be impacted in any way? How (be	specific)?

Yes, without access to technology, my ability to utilize the UDL frame work for teaching would be limited. Because of how digital todays world has become, without technology, we would not be able to reach all of our learners most effectively. According to the article, Digital Citizenship: Are You A Digital Citizen? "Students are learning in new ways that were unimaginable when parents and teachers were students in the classroom." One of those ways, being through technology, and the learning opportunities that technology provides. In Chapter 2 of the UDL text books, it discusses that a part of the Universal Design for Learning involves providing students with multiple means of action and expression. This can be done by "optimizing access to tools and assistive technologies," by, "allowing students to use technology to express knowledge..." (p. 27, Table 2-6). This means that because of how used to using technology students are, it will be best if we can capitalize on that desire for using technology, and have them use it for academic purposes. A lot of students know a days are more engaged when technology is involved with instruction. Therefore, utilizing that desire for using technology, we will be reaching the different learning needs of more students. However, if we do not have access to technology, it hinders that ability to reach all modalities of learners and puts those students behind in the digital world.

Question #5: Professional	Learning Networks: How does access to technology impact a teacher’s ability to engage with other educators?

Through different learning networks, such as twitters, teachers are now more capable than ever to engage with other educators about all tools, resources, and topics related to education. For example, in class, we were shown a list of popular education hashtags on twitter. When you use the hashtag in one of your tweets, it pulls up an entire twitter chat from educational professionals from all over the world about that specific educational topic. You can then participate in the chat if you wish, or read all of the new ideas that relate to that topic. Technology has given teachers an amazing professional tool to enhance their professional learning development. Teachers can use these professional learning networks, such as TeachersPayTeachers, to enhance their instruction and further their educational knowledge, as well as to continue learning how to be a better teacher.
