Types of Speech Acts:

1. Assertives: Statements that convey information or describe the world.

   • Example: "The sky is blue."

2. Directives: Utterances that attempt to get the listener to do something.

   • Example: "Please close the door."

3. Commissives: Commit the speaker to some future action.

   • Example: "I promise to help you with your homework."

4. Expressives: Convey the speaker's emotional state.

   • Example: "I thank you for your kindness."

5. Declarations: Bring about a change in the external situation by virtue of the utterance itself.

   • Example: "I now pronounce you husband and wife."
