Did you stay within the budget?

I did not stay within the budget, I spent $5034 on resources for a Primary Classroom.

Did you find it easy or did you find it hard? Why?

It is extremely hard to stay within the budget, when you need to buy a lot of stationary and resources for your classroom and having a limit on what you can spend. It is hard because you need to limit yourself to resources if you have gone over your budget.

Did you have to give up items to be able to buy other things more important?

Yes, I had to give up a lot of items to buy more important things.

Aleisha Reason

Subject: Mathematics

Class: Primary- Year 3 (30 students)

Did you stay within the budget?

No, I surprisingly did not. I initially thought I was being pretty conservative with my choices/spending, however, I eventually realised that was not the actual case when my first total hit just under $5000. I did make some changes to my choices and removed a number of items, however still ended with a total of $4640.

Did you find it easy or did you find it hard? Why?

I found it very hard! Firstly I had to really consider what items were/weren’t essentials for the classroom and students, which I found to be a bit difficult. The next challenge was the quantities of items, because depending on what the item was, upwards of a minimum of 30 quantities were needed, which hiked the spending up big time. Which leads to the biggest challenge, trying to stay within a set allowed amount. Four thousand dollars sounded like a lot initialy, however, it was very easy for me to over spend, even with cut backs and making adjustments, I wasn’t able to bring the total within the budgeted amount.

Did you have to give up items to be able to buy other things more important?

Absolutely! As previously stated, I did make changes to my original selection and items were chosen to be cut out more so than others, dependent on their worth/importance. Probably the most contributing factors were cost (obviously), but, I also contemplated on some items to decide if I thought a cost-efficient replica could be made, so that it didn’t have to come out of the budget allowance. A big example of this was a Maths Mat, which originally was selected from the EDSCO website. However, when making changes this was an item that I knew could be a DIY project that was not only affordable, but also relatively easy to assemble.

- Aly Spencer

Class: English
Grade: 7
Did you stay within the budget?
No, this was so hard! After my first go I was at $5226. I had to seriously reconsider everything!

Did you find it easy or did you find it hard? Why?
I found it hard because I wanted my students to have the best of everything.

Did you have to give up items to be able to buy other things more important?
Yes I was hoping to make the classroom colourful with lots of posters and banners, but I ended up having to get rid of these things and go with a more DIY approach (which isn't bad).

Ashlee Smale
