Cyanotype is a process which uses chemicals such as ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide.
For the mixing of the chemicals you need g of ammonium in one tube mixed with 100ml of distilled water, in the other tube mixing 100 ml of distilled water with 10g of pottasium ferricyanide.
Its very important that you keep the two chemicals seperate until the lights are off.
When you have turned on the safe lights in the dark room combine the two chemicals together and mix thouroughly.

This process was first created by John Herschel, he was a mathematician, astronomer and chemist.

Cyanotype is also known as the blueprint process. This is because out the blue tint that covers the print. The first person to use this process apart from Herschel; Anna Atkins created a whole booked names 'ferns'

The first part of this process is mixing the chemicals together. It is best to use two different tubes/containers. As you can see in my pictures I have labelled them solution a and solution b.
Solution A consists of the 10 grams of potassium ferricyanide, with 100ml of distilled water.
Solution B is 25 grams of ammonium citrate with 100 ml od distilled water.
The reason why you have to keep these mixtures seperate is because when combined the chemicals react, so the chemicals become light sensitive.
This means that when you combine he chemicals you must do it in the dark room with the saftey light.

When I attempted this method the first time unfourtunatley it was unsuccsesful.
To do this process starts after you have made the chemical solution you have to choose your material. I used paper but you can use fabric and other such materials. To create a picture you have to print out a large format negative onto transparency, this is what you use when you expose. You can also just use objects like plants or as if you were making a photogram.

The first print did not come out, we thought that the chemicals were mixed wrong. Also i thought it was not exposed for long enough. For the second attempt, a new solution was made and instead of exposing for 15 minutes we exposed for 30. This was succseful and my print came out very clear.
