Somewhere along the way, I forgot how to assign a post to multiple classes. I think Google Changed it on me and I just never bothered to figure it out again. So much easier when you teach multiple sections of the same class to just post it once and be done with it.

I like being able to move posts to the top of the stream when I'm asking students to complete an assignment from earlier in the week/unit. A lot of them do struggle with navigating the stream (though some are really good at sorting through it and using dates as clues to find assignments) so it helps to push their immediate work to the top.

I assign work to individual students either when I'm providing different scaffolds to lower students, more challenging work to advanced students, or when I'm posting assignments for students who were absent. Often I'll translate a paper assignment into digital for absent students or I'll post modified directions and assignments for them.

I like creating drafts of all the posts that I will use in a class period. To prevent my students from being confused by which task requires their attention, I'll post their Grapple/bellwork early in the morning. Notes and exit tickets get pre-loaded as drafts that I can post when we reach them in the lesson flow.

I watch: assigning specific students, adding a topic and moving to the top of stream. Because I work with a lot of ELL students in all my classes I dont want the whole class if they receive some extra help and by assigning to specific student I can add translated instructions or explanations without their peers knowing.
after using classroom often it can get very crowded, so I use topics for students to sort work and have them find things faster. That way they can check if they completed all the work for a specific topic.
Moving things to the top of the stream is important for me because I always make sure the most important or current assignment is at the top so my students always look at the top to find the current work. If more work is there they will move on from top down to complete.

I am a counselor so I am excited about being able to post important information for my students on an ongoing basis. I know I will need to update what is the first thing students read so this is an important feature for me. For the same reason, the creating topics and organizing by topics feature is important to make students be able to go through the information that they need in an organized manner. Maybe they don't need the scholarships right away but need the SAT dates right away. Last, I already needed the reuse a post because I got click happy and finished an assignment before I clicked on the make a copy for each student! I need to reuse some of my posts!

I would use create topics and organize by topic as I add different classrooms. I think that it would be helpful to be organized and be able to find different topics easily to be able to reuse them. It would be better to reuse a classroom that was created and make it better rather than to redo it. I would use posting a question for a survey to find out what students are thinking about a topic or to see what they know as background knowledge before starting a new topic. I would use moving a post to the top of the stream as a way to be able to post the most important information at the top of the stream.

Archiving and recovering old classes would be very useful when I am teaching different courses in different school years. When electives or courses change, I can archive material I am not using to clear up space and when I teach that course again, I can easily retrieve what I have done in the past to use as a template.
Posting quesions is a great way to have students do a warm up at the beginning of class. Open ended questions can spark discussions that connect prior learning or expose misconceptions to new topics. Multuple choice questions can be used to show class data before and after lessons, providing feedback for students and for teacher.
Creating topics and organizing by topic will help students keep track of where assignments fit into the course outline. I can also use the topics as a way for students to review, by directing them to search in a particular topic for information that they have previously learned. I think that students recall better when they review work they themselves have completed.

Based on the videos I viewed and the information gathered from each, I would apply the information during instruction/planning in the following ways:
Posting A Question:
I would pose a question and post it to assess students' prior knowledge of a topic to be discussed/introduced. The information obtained would then be used to differentiate my lessons/assignments.
Creating Topics & Organizing By Topic:
Organization is the key to success! Having unorganized information is stressful and will potentially create an over whelming environment for me. Information is easy to locate and assign. You no longer have to reinvent the wheel. The work is already done. If necessary, you're able to make changes to a previous assignment.
Assign Post to Specific Students:
This section has Differentiated Lessons written all over it. What more do I need to say? This area is based on students' needs or specific classes.
Archive an Old Class & Recover it:
Out with the old, in with the new. For me, I would simply prefer to clean up my dashboard (less clutter). If I need to locate previous information, simply recover the class. Tucking things away for a later date or time.

I plan on Archiving a few of my old classes, but was worried I might lose something I had posted in the past. I am confident now that I will be able to "unarchive" them if necessary once I do this. I Posting a Question, I think this great for soliciting writing ideas, comprehension checks or just a way to start dialogue on a specific subject. Finally, I like the idea of being able to assign posts to specific students because I will be teaching in an ICOT class this year. I can see the benefits of differentiated work assignments and only assigning students the work that each individual needs to do. I am hoping to share this with my work partners and make assigning work easier!

For example, if we discussed the use of rhetorical devices in persuasive writing, I could organize all of the posts that pertained to that topic, or, while reading a novel, I might organize all of the posts that pertained to discussions about a particular character from the novel. This feature is a great way to efficiently set up a review for students.

I would use “Posting a Question” on Google Classroom as “bell-work” for the students when they enter class. There is always a transition time as students arrive to the room, and this would allow for students to use the time efficiently while also getting more familiar with the topic that we will be studying in class that day. I would do short answer questions mostly to allow them to think about the topic like a brainstorm.

I really like the feature of “Moving Posts to the Top of the Stream” because it allows me to remind students of previous work, or assignments that could be overdue. I appreciate that I can bring back previous work to students to help them transfer their background knowledge to a new lesson!

“Creating Topics” is an excellent way to help me and the students stay organized. Without technology, students fill their backpacks with papers and supplies, and things easily get lost. Their books, worksheets, and notes are all mixed up. With this feature in Google, the students and I can both stay organized, and we can easily reference previous work which can be helpful. Especially at the end of a unit with a project, they may want to refer back to previous work and references.

I find that archiving classes is a great tool from year to year. I always go back to previous year to check my organization. I also like to use the same directions and verbiage to have continuity across the years.
I enjoy the Post to Multiple Classes because in the past I have forgotten some specific directive that I want each class to know. Now with this tool we can have continuity across multiple classes.

I have caught myself making the simple mistake and not giving each student a copy of the assignment. Reuse a post is great for that specific aspect. I can now reuse a post and alter it to fix my error(s). It makes work a lot easier

This supports the ideas of differentiated instruction or student engagement if students are to choose their topic, for example.
In "Archive an Old Class," I would use this to keep my dashboard clean, but reuse ideas from previous years. It would allow me to see what worked/what didn't and even use past student work as exemplars to provide to the current class.
"Posting a Question" is a great way to have a digital conversation with students (if they are allowed to comment on each other's writing). I agree, assigned post to specific students are a great tool for student engagement and participation. Assigning different task for students base on their ability helps their growth and their confidence in learning.

Saving post as a draft and assigning a draft post:
When creating an assignment you do not have to assign or schedule right away. You are able to save the assignment as a draft and it will show up as a saved post. I meant may need to assess where I am and pacing or check other information prior to feeling comfortable assigning. When you are finally ready to assign the post or schedule it you will click on the saved post and actually click on the blue icon and finally click assign.
Using Post in multiple classes:
When using this feature the classes that I click on all of those students will receive the assignment. I'm unable to click on specific students when using more than one classroom. I'm interested in being able to post multiple classrooms because I teach math to more than one homeroom class and I'd like to get into using Google classroom in this manner.
Creating topics and organizing by topic:
Creating topics allows me to organize my posts. I will be able to easily find post and I have to go through the entire stream. I like how you can click add topic more than once for a post because many times and assignment might be able to be categorized in more than one topic. If I've already created assignment but failed to include a topic I can go to that assignment and click on the three dots and edit. Clicking on a topic will allow me to see all post that deal with that topic.
