Low self-esteem is characterized by feeling bad about oneself and a lack of self confidence. A person with low self-esteem often feels awkward, unloved, uncared for, and incompetent. They tend to be hypersensitive and are easily effected by what other people say about them, as well as being hypersensitive to rejection. In fact, a person who is lacking self-esteem will tend to see rejection even if it is not present. A person with low self-esteem has a negative perception about themselves, making it hard for them to believe that others could see them in a positive way.

(source: https://www.psychalive.org/low-self-esteem/)
